  1. Hey, sorry i missed this dude, i assume by now you have fitted your fairings anyway but in case not.... I had a square seat support unit that went under the tail and fixed onto the subframe rails, then fix the seat unit to that. Then when seat unit is on, undertray bolts to it, and fixes into subframe underneath where your tail tidy would bolt to. I shall be converting this back to a track bike now..... i finished it (kinda): http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/10258034_10152823408159018_1775595807884912933_o_zps2f4910e8.jpg rode it for a while, then i started looking for a cheap track bike.... I ended up spending 5k on a bike waay too pretty to track! http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/10469208_10152903904834018_5145319377608893919_n_zps0fedfc7a.jpg so now after 1 unsuccessful track outing on the new bike ( far too concerned about damaging her to actually ride the damn thing properly) i have decided to strip off all the streetfighter bits and get her back on track duties! Going to begin the stripdown next week, not many bits i need to put back on track, but kinda hard finding them at the mo! if anyone has a spare top yoke for a k4/5 600/750 please lemme know!!!
  2. couple weeks worth updates which really didnt amount to much unfortunately.... Few problems at work and unexpected expenditure means progress has been slower than i would have liked! Ok so i f**ked up the paint on the yokes, so that was the final push i needed into getting them and the bars powdercoated satin black to match everything else on the bike. Should be picking those up on saturday morning. Also got a few teaser pics from the painter, wheels are finished, bodywork is being cleared as i type, so should have that back by weekend also http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/IMG-20140507-WA0000_zps76f1f9f6.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/IMG-20140507-WA0001_zps1e16e64f.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/IMG-20140507-WA0003_zpsba45ccd1.jpg Working this weekend, so going to be next weekend before i get chance to bolt stuff up and figure out lines/cables etc. Undertray has been delayed again, not going to get that til around 30th, so hoping to get everything else sorted by then! picked my bodywork an wheels up today, not got time to get them back on properly but quick sneak peek.... http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0166_zpsf142f86f.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0168_zps507c33f8.jpg wheels aint pink, just this candy is a real hard colour to photograph! She's back on 2 wheels! http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/10375127_10152803725114018_6919918827703011504_n_zps73ff279b.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/10384759_10152803725409018_5022829313490544021_n_zps7016658a.jpg Couple more evenings/weekends work in her i reckon before ill be happy to take her for MOT, then im gonna get out and ride this beauty as much as physically possible ahead of ANOTHER strip down over the coming winter to finish her off completely... Tomorrow im going to get lines and cables measured up and ordered, have the clocks to wire in, some loom shortening and extending work to do, reinstate headlight wiring etc, fit new headstock bearings (AGAIN!) and a quick once over, bleed up the new brake lines and she should be good for an MOT
  3. Slight deviation from the original plan...... Mates had a set of kwakka wheels ( 05 zx10 front , 05 zx6 rear) kicking around in his loft for ages, i really like the look of the Kwak wheels, so i chucked em in the van and took them back to the garage to see what could be done.... Front as i see it at mo, will just need some sleeves for the fork leg clamps making up. spacer and disc positioning looks spot on Rear is going to be a bit more involved, Going to have to run a zx10 rear caliper and carrier, but it doesnt fit properly...yet. I have it locked in position currently, and would probably be just fine, but id rather it was 100% correct so going to talk to a few people tomorrow see what can be done about adding extra material to the carrier. Add some custom spacers and should all bolt up nicely http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0114_zpsf140dcec.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0115_zps54938b43.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0116_zps3285648f.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0117_zpsf08dfb89.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/IMG-20140421-WA0005_zps6d5ddb5d.jpg I bought these zx wheels for £200 inc discs, rear caliper, spindles and spacers etc. Front is slightly buckled, but thats £90 to have straightened out, then probably somewhere around £150 for spacers and sleeves etc to make it all work. So around £450 for wheels, discs, rear caliper and all associated hardware to make it work, i already have a spare set of rubber for them. I did consider buying the zx10 forks too: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0121_zps89744b6c.jpg Love that gold colour and matches everythin else perfectly, but alas its probably more work ( and unnecessary expense) to make the 10 forks work on my bike than it is to make the wheels work in my forks! This is how i plan to make front wheel work: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/zx10intogsxrsleeve2_zps54018a17.png http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/ZX10intoGSXRsleeve_zps6d829d91.png Simple but effective going to email my CNC guy tomorrow and get a price. going to play around with rear caliper carrier some more tomorrow, if i can get that working in a way im happy with ill measure up some spacers and order them too. also got the top yoke etc primed: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0118_zps46c8898b.jpg Painted: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0119_zpsdf9124e2.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0120_zps2b75d407.jpg Now to leave it to cure overnight, then tomorrow a light rub down and some Lacquer
  4. Update!! Yoke arrived, so naturally i legged it into the garage to see how everything fits up, bare in mind that nothing in these pics is accurately positioned, just trying to get a feel for how things are gonna go and help me make some decisions! http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0102_zps87e7104d.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0101_zpsde082569.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0098_zps08089733.jpg But yeah, there ya go. It fits perfectly, bars clear the fork top adjusters nicely, clocks will fit in the gap behind headlight nicely, and be visible even laid horizontal in line with the yoke. Should be in black to match lower yoke by end of monday Starting to get super excited about this build now! Need my wheels and bodywork back from painters before i can make any real decisions on cables, but going to measure up lines monday and get some new black braided lines made up and a new line in black for rear. Then its just a case of getting bike back together, measuring up new cables, extending/shortening looms as required, and getting stuff bolted up and then off for an MOT
  5. Cool build man! and very very thorough! Always good to see the underdog bikes on track, even better when they are showing the 1000cc supersport boys how its done! Glad to hear you got her on track and had fun, that pic is awesome, the wide pan blurred pics with lots of scenery are always my favourites on track days. Keep it shiny side up man maybe see you on track sometime this year
  6. Cheers dude, appreciate that comment so... My yoke is finished, is in the mail now, hopefully get it tomorrow! here she is next to the crappy standard one: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/WP_000446_zpsa3yrtxau.jpg So, today i decided to do some small bits after work, first i took this: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_0082_zps2ldzfjst.jpg drilled cap for tubes, made a bracket and bolted up loosely: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_0083_zpss2zuyujm.jpg not without sticking a 10mm drill bit into my hand first..... http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0081_zpsf584a002.jpg then i made a few other small improvements to the bikes wiring, and started on getting the Mt03 light loom done. However finding it hard to make definitive length choices for any of the wiring with no tank/bars etc to sort routing for stuff, so most of that will prob wait til i get bike back together. MT03 light was fouling the OE damper bracket like so: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0084_zps637e5e03.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0085_zps7163588c.jpg So hacksaw came out and now: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0087_zpsf909d427.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0088_zps2f87dcaa.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0089_zps382c282d.jpg much better hoping i can get some more bits done on monday!
  7. Time has been hard to find this last week tbh, not acheived much! Starting to think finding the time to get the finicky bits done like spraying the rad black etc may be more difficult than i thought, so going to concentrate on getting the bike back together and useable for the summer, then have another strip down and rebuild in winter. just few bits to update really, started on the carbon infills: Base coat: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0075_zpseddcde92.jpg carbon laid and resin on: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0077_zpse96e3ab5.jpg These are a long way from perfect, but they arent too bad for my first crack at using carbon. Will get a pair professionally done i think, the bike deserves it! am sure i could learn and eventually be able to turn out a perfect part, but this shit aint cheap, and i dont have the disposable cash right now! fitted up some Ti bolts on yokes and fork pinch's and mocked up where the headlight is likely to sit: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_000001_zps5d578245.jpg and new speedo arrived: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0076_zpsda109bda.jpg Its the KOSO Db01r +, which means its about 10mm bigger all round, larger screen, programmable rev counter, programmable odo, engine management light etc etc. Nice little unit, and only £10 more than the previous version Yoke is in the post, so hopefully start getting some shit done!
  8. Got this from the CNC shop today: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/gsxr-yoke_zpse3215e4e.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/gsxr-yoke2_zps5bb6797c.jpg Was going to get the bolts put on the front instead, but the more i think about it, am going to have him tap 2 threads in the front underside to hold a clock bracket, so keeping the bolts at the back makes sense. Think im going to paint the yoke myself rather than have it coated, just so the finish matches the lower yoke perfectly. Here is my paint inspiration: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/IMG1838-XL_zps1f8fcfd5.jpg Not sure im gonna quite get that colour on the wheels, paint i picked up may well come out quite different, but its a 2 part factory honda paint, so hopefully going heavy on the top coat will get me close enough.... This is the colour ( I think!) http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/honda-vrf-1200f-6_800x0w_zpsa1409da7.jpg Was a time based decision really, i could get that paint mixed up there and then, or wait another week to have a more "candy" based paint made elsewhere. If i dont like it, ill just have em repainted. Im stuck in 2 minds as to whether or not to paint the MT03 Headlight shroud white to match the Tank and tail, or leave it black to match frame etc..... any input? will get a few hours in today, so should have a semi interesting update soon!
  9. This is a cool project man! Im seriously contemplating a cafe racer or a bobber for my next build... but i guess i should "finish" my current one first lol Exhausts are going to look sweet! cant wait to see this progress
  10. Ok, so there has been a slight change of plan.... I finished the track build: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0090_zps4f865ce0.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0091_zpse38c4132.jpg Rode it once, realised how hideously uncomfortable it was on the road and figured id best buy a cheap road bike to keep me going until i can afford an FZ1.... So i bought this FZR 1000 exup fighter: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0097_zpsfe546095.jpg tatty, not to my taste, but it was great fun... until i started inevitably comparing it to the gsxr, which for the record is a better bike in just about every single way! so what could i do.... i could run street plastics on the gsxr and just swap over for trackdays, that'd work - but M'eh. OR, being that im a fighter kinda guy, i could strip the gsxr down, sell the track fairings etc, sell the FZR and fighter the Gsxr... HELL YES! Now im not going silly with this build. I want to keep it classy. The breif is simple: It has to retain standard Geometry. It has to look almost factory from a distance. and everything has to work. No bodges, no quick fixes, it has to be right. With that in mind i set out the plan. Factory seat unit, with solo cowl and pillion seat should i want/need to use it. Yamaha MT03 headlight unit with correct and subtle mounting brackets. Custom top yoke visually matched with the factory lower yoke Both in gloss black, 50mm risers to clear fork tops and retain current suspension setup. Unbraced Fat bars. New grips, cables, brake lines etc Titanium bolts where possible ( discs, fork pinch, caliper etc) Skin tank infill panels in Carbon fibre Factory clocks in a custom Carbon fibre "pod" Bikestyle undertray with built in lights ( just to keep people guessing) Paint..... now this is where im struggling... I've narrowed it down to a few options... House of Kolour "Burple" ( Blue with a purple pearl) on tank, tail and wheels. front mudguard in Black. House of Kolour "kandy apple red" on tank and tail, Wheels in House of Kolour "Pagan Gold" Gloss black everything Gloss Black with Gold wheels. I really like the idea of colour coding the wheels, but its going to either look awesome, or awful. And aside from photoshops ( working on it) theres not really any way of knowing which until its painted! Apologies for the lack of pics, but at mo ill im getting done is paint prep as im waiting on yokes being made, parts being delivered etc. Build should be complete in next 4 weeks, so will update as and when i get stuff done!
  11. Cheers guys Mr Fro - not booked anything as yet, dont want to temp fate!!! Tracks ill definately be doing this year though are Mallory, Bedford, and Rockingham. Also doing CSS sometime soon too, just need the bike finished before i can book on!! Any other tracks will be as and when i have free time/cash to go play!
  12. Cheers dude Booked the bike in on another Dyno next friday so i can do some tests find out whats causing this fuelling issue... more to come on that then! Had an hour odd spare this afternoon so i got a bit more done bodywork wise..... once again, apologies for the terrible pic quality!!! http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0039_zpsgfrybaku.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0027_zpsf6hnfz5e.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0040_zpstiaraiui.jpg Almost there!
  13. wow, been a while.... Stu - forks are running Ohlins progressive springs, which despite the majority opinion of "bin em and get linear" are extremely effective. ill be sorting the suspension once and for all later in the year, but for now it'll do nicely. certainly never had an issue with the handling thus far! so, some updates.... im really kinda lost for where to start as so much has gone on, come off, been broken, been fixed etc etc! Ill chuck in todays update.... She is back from Crescent.... http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0013_zps51c10ea5.jpg 140bhp ( im allowed to round up a 0.12 bhp surely!) at the wheel, that'll do nicely Bad note from the dyno, the quickshifter is playing up randomly cutting the injectors as and when it feels like it. The pc3 has some issues also, hence the big dip in the 2-3k rpm bracket. The dyno op did say this was exaggerated by very small 5-10% throttle openings so he could show me the problem. Tbh you'd probably never notice it on track, but ill get a PC5 fitted and have a wet map chucked on too, so every cloud has a silver lining and all that! Didnt make as much progress with paint last weekend as i'd hoped ( bloody kids ) but did a little bit today, hopefully get em all finished on Tue/Wed. The finish aint perfect, but i dont really care, these are more of a tester for when i get my second set painted when my painter has room in the diary. http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0252_zps2a7b2027.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0253_zpsbd123fbc.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0005_zps2aa7d868.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_0254_zpswaa5f1qu.JPG The red IS actually red, honest! Also got a new rad bracket and rear master cylinder yoke nut F.O.C from a nice chap in the parts department, and a shedload of various stickers And while i was waiting on the Dyno, Crescent were kind enough to let me take a couple bikes out to have a play on, first off a GSR 750: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0002_zpsae045bc9.jpg Then a Hayabusa: http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/deangte/DSC_0003_zps9f50ef3e.jpg Have to say they both surprised me, the GSR is a fantastic bike and i am very very interested in buying one in the next year or so funds allowing... ( I woulda bought it today, but wife said no to me getting it on finance ) But the biggest surprise to me was the 'Busa. Id always assumed that as it was so big and heavy and long, that it would just be a big comfy barge to ride and wouldnt handle very well at all... I was very, very wrong! definately not in 600cc supersports territory, but easy enough to fling around once you get to grips with it,Id put it on a par with say a TL or SV 1000... and that engine!!! like being strapped to a cruise missile!! Full power mode, into 2nd gear, whack throttle open and BOOM, warp factor 5 engaged captain!! More to come in next week i hope!
