  1. I'll answer my own question!! No, you don't need to apply for anything, provided you have a licence book you're CBT and start the ball rolling. I got my test passed last year [emoji106] I'm now riding a Kawasaki ER6-f and loving it [emoji12]
  2. There ain't no way I'm voting tory, 'ole dish face is privatising the NHS (he just hasn't got the balls to say so) taxing people on their spare bedrooms (but only if they're skint or sick) and flogging off the last of our government company's cheap (post office shares anyone?, still his chums made a truckload of cash), all the while telling us we have to suffer austerity as he's paying off the deficit (whilst borrowing more than labour ever did). As for Nick Clegg, the man who presided over the death of his party, why would you vote for that liar? (Tuition fees anyone?) Rubber faced Milliband it is for me, I'm voting for the party, not just the man.
  3. Got my MOD2 Passed at the first attempt on Monday 20/10/14 as with the MOD1 it wasn't all plain sailing though The Details: I arrived at the test centre with my instructor and another candidate, his test was first and mine second. When the other candidate came back with the examiner he got the good news - He Passed! with a clean sheet - Congrats all round When the examiner came back out of his office he didn't seem to be in a very good mood, just my opinion. He checked through my paperwork and we went out to the car park, I read the eye test Regd plate OK so over to the bikes. Show me tell me consisted of "show me how you would check the brake lights work" (checked them both) and "tell me how you would check that your tyres are ok to ride on" tread depth, pressure and condition etc. On the bikes and off we go, the second junction I came too has temporary road works on the corner of the junction (no lights just cones), at this point I felt it prudent to stop at the give way and make sure the road was clear as there were traffic cones on the road and blokes in the road digging up the tarmac (he gave me a minor for stopping... "hesitation"). We head off down the road and through a village, carry out an angled pull off around a parked car, another pull over when safe to do so. None of which bothered me as myself and my instructor had been down this road and done the exact same thing before the test so I knew the road well, at the end of the road is a busy mini roundabout with a pretty much blind entrance for the traffic on the right, not for them entering the mini roundabout but for me seeing them, as virtually everybody speeds on that road cars just "appear" and are on the roundabout almost immediately you see them. Now this very thing had happened with my instructor in the hour prior to my test, I was already moving onto the roundabout when a car "appeared", now I knew the car had had to slow down which means I shouldn't of been there, my instructor told me not to worry about it as the guy was speeding anyway... cut back to the test, as I'm approaching the roundabout all this is going through my mind, I stop at the roundabout (cars are on it) I see a gap and think "if I didn't have the examiner behind me I'd give it a bit and squeeze in there" but I do so I didn't, I waited until I felt I could pull out without "going for it", even then when I did the examiner couldn't get out and we got split up (he gave me another minor... "hesitation"). The next 20 mins go without a hitch, the independent ride was fine... until right at the end. I'm heading for the hospital and I lost him again at a big roundabout, I'm heading towards a set of lights that have been on green for a bit (I know these lights well, I knew they were close to going red) I'm tickling the throttle, looking in the mirror I'm thinking "he isn't getting through these" and Lo, it comes to pass... as I go through I just catch a glimpse of an amber light so I know I'm going to have to stop and I'm already checking for a safe place on the left. Now the problem is as you go through the lights on the left there is a give way filter lane joining the road you're on, then a bus stop, then double yellows, then a left turn road junction, then another 20ft of double yellows, then a parked car. So I'm thinking I'll have to stop in front of the parked car, at this very moment I hear (in quite a stern, pissed off, tone) "pull in on the left" I immediately think "I can't stop here, there's a filter lane... again I hear (in quite a stern, pissed off, tone) "pull in on the left" I'm parallel to the bus stop now and again I 'm thinking "I can't stop in the bus stop" again I hear (in a loud SHOUTY stern, pissed off, tone) "pull in on the left" so I quite literally do my checks and stop, on double yellows on top of a bus stop and within 10ft of a junction... I think to myself "well that's shagged it" After a good 2 minutes the lights then go green and as the cars that are in front of him are driving past me he says (in quite a stern, pissed off, tone) "set off and turn immediate left" I'm thinking "I can't pull out now there are moving cars alongside me" again I hear (in a loud SHOUTY stern, pissed off, tone) "set off NOW", so I indicate and check as best I can and sort of crawl along the gutter until I can make the turn... all the while thinking "well that's doubly that then" We then do a bit of suburbia and a 20 zone and a bit farther on we make a left turn that tells me we're heading back to the test centre, we then get on a dual carriage way and I hear "this is a dual carriageway, we are going all the way to the second roundabout" which is what I expected. The limit on this dual carriageway is 50 so off I go, I catch up some cars do my checks indicate and pull out, the cars I'm passing are quite spaced apart, the gap between the last 2 cars isn't huge but big enough for me to think "should I pull in" I elect not too and pass him. Now at the roundabout is an arctic truck in the left hand lane ready to pull out on too the roundabout, I can see there's no traffic on the roundabout and I'm thinking "the lorry's going to set off before I get there, which means if I stay in the right hand lane I'll be on the right hand side of the lorry on the inside of him next to the roundabout, I'll stay in the left hand lane, follow him round and pass him on the other side" so I pull in. Then the car I haven't seen in front of the lorry pulls onto the roundabout and the lorry stays where it is... Dohhh I pull up behind the lorry (as its too late to change lanes now) and hear in my ear, in a VERY SHOUTY pissed off tone "can you tell me why we are behind this lorry..." Knowing full well I can't because I haven't got a mic. That really is that... I think. (He gave me a minor for that... "Planning"). The last 10 mins went without hiccup, all the way I'm thinking "well that's £150 up the Swanee" I was surprised when he said I'd passed, Obviously. Now I'm bike shopping... not sure what to buy, anybody got any suggestions ?
  4. I drive a lot of miles for work and have experience in the bollocks that is our insurance system... I once ran a guy over (in the car); 2 lines of slow moving traffic on an urban dual carriageway 30mph limit, I was in the inside lane at 20mph (no really!, nose to tail but moving traffic) passing a lay-by style parking area on the left outside a load of shops, as I'm approaching a lorry parked in the layby (turns out he's delivering) the driver appears at the rear of the vehicle, without a look, steps out and starts walking down the side of the lorry... I'm thinking I don't really want to stop and there's enough room on my right to move over (benefit of hindsight, should have stopped) I check over my shoulder and start moving over, he then drops something on the road (I think it was paperwork), I cover the brake pedal, I'm on top of him now and start braking, he then BENDS OVER! to pick it up, head in towards his lorry arse out to the traffic, I perform an emergency stop, my wing mirror hits him on the arse he falls over. Bloke behind me stops, bloke behind him doesn't. I get out to see how bad he's hurt, he's screaming the house down rolling about, at this point i'm thinking eye eye whats going on here, I'm 100% I didn't run over him with the wheels theres no damage to the car apart from a broken wing mirror glass. I call the police and an ambulance... Long story short, he had a spiral fracture of his leg, caused by the way he went down rather than any force of impact, the police sent me on my way (interestingly they could see where the car had touched him because it wiped the dirt off, he caught the wing mirror and the side of the rear bumper). At renewal the insurance company bumped the companies insurance by £23,000 pounds, as that's what he "could" claim, the M.D said that the Insurance had told him the cash had already been put aside and all he had to do was ring up and they'd give him it !! The police wrote a letter saying that they wouldn't pursue anything as I didn't have a case to answer. I was younger then, now I would stop... and give the guy some "advice"
  5. Well, I've finally got my MOD 1 passed today, its my first time doing the test after having to put it back 3 times due to work (workshy colleagues calling in sick) still I've handed my notice in and I'm starting a new job next week so that isn't going to be a problem anymore The reason for posting is that it wasn't ALL plain sailing; I managed to skid during the emergency stop, at which point I thought I'd blown it, examiner walked over (I'm thinking "go over to the gate and I'll let you out") but he asked me to turn around and do the avoidance, I'm thinking he didnt see it, then should I tell him? quickly followed by no !! . Avoidance went OK, then the gate, then "you've passed" So sat in the Office he says "you had a clear run apart from the emergency stop. I noticed the skid but as its wet and you went through the speed trap at a good speed (58) and you controlled the skid perfectly I awarded 1 minor" I thought a skid was "it", get your shit and leave, but apparently not. The weird thing about it was that I felt a little sideways movement at the start of the emergency stop, but it didn't feel like a skid, more a sort of greasy slide affair... because I had just started braking I was still moving at a fair lick, it was easy to ease off the rear brake whilst still covering it with my foot and let the front brake do all the work. I think if it had been at the end, as I came to a stop, I wouldn't have got away with it... Lucky
  6. Hi, I have a full car licence and have had for 20 odd years, I was diagnosed with a medical condition that required DVLA notification about 10 years ago. I duly notified DVLA as instructed by my Doctor, they wrote back inside a couple of weeks saying I was ok to continue driving. Cut to last year I moved Home and sent off my driving licence for the address change - all hell broke loose !! Cue appointments with my Doctor, Neuro and Optician plus multiple forms to fill out. It took approx 4 months to get my licence back, it had a few changes too. The expiry date had been slashed to 3 years (I've since found out this is "normal") and my entitlements had been reduced, namely everything but the car. No more vehicles carrying 19 people with a trailer on !?! The real kicker is my symptoms haven't changed, at all, in the last 10 years, I've been lucky in that respect. I didn't have my full bike licence, even though I had and rode bikes when I was younger, I never got around to passing the test. Something I'm looking to do now via the DAS scheme, do I need to apply for anything regarding the licence ? I don't remember if there was any bike stuff on it before DVLA butchered it. Do you have to apply to ride a 125cc bike even though I have a full car licence ? I realise if im doing it via DAS I wont be riding a 125cc bike, but will I have to apply for "something" Cheers, Matt
  7. Hi, looking to get back on a bike for the first time in 25 years ! things have changed a bit since then. My 16yr old is wanting a bike and this has peaked my interest again. Looking to do a DAS in the Grimsby area, any personal recommendations of where to go for training would be gratefully received. Also am I correct in thinking I need to do a CBT and a two part test ? Cheers, Matt
