  1. As part of my Advanced Training I was advised "never make a third lane" that may help explain..When overtaking where you finish up with one vehicle on your left and one on your right, you can never tell what either of those drivers will do and you have no escape route. Whereas if there is only the vehicle on your left you have an obvious escape route on your right....
  2. Yes I had a guy undertake me on a left turn then abuse me whilst we waited in a traffic queue at some lights but I got the last laugh...I filtered to get out of his way and noticed a cop car up ahead so I attracted their attention and when the lights changed they pulled over so I could explain. The guy started to come past and they waived him into a car park off road and asked me to follow. As i pulled into the car park the idiot jumped out of his car and started abusing and threatening me all over a gain in front of the police. They very kindly asked me to continue my journey as they were going to be having a word with the gentleman regarding his driving and attitude".....lol
  3. I'm going with my eldest daughter because i won two free tickets
  4. What????.....lol..... Anything with a camping in the title is a no, thank you. What the hell is the babysham ? I have google it and it come up as babycham, some sorts of alcoholic drink made from fermented pears. Sparkling wine some sorts. So still a super no. What makes me sad, and laugh, is that at the bigger rallies now they have showers, ready built tents etc.....not exactly what I would call hard core.....lol
  5. I never camp near a fire anyway they ruin your tent....Don't need fires to have fun
  6. This sounds much more like a simple hot seizure to me....and as far as "colliding with the barrel" is concerned, this is what a hot seizure would look like to someone who has little to no knowledge (piston smears down the barrel). Just a case of replacing the barrel, piston and rings, gaskets etc.
  7. Tools not rules... If only more observers would understand that. Some have the associate acting like a performing monkey, for the benefit of the person riding along behind. I have to agree with this in a limited degree.....I work in education and have always found that some fellow educators rely on a "do it by numbers" approach as it makes it easier for them and to be fair, some "learners" need this kind of approach (but I only feel that this should be in the beginning until a level of confidence has been achieved). However this approach will often lead to the learner stuck with the system taught and unable to "think outside of the box" which in terms of motorcycle riding leave them potentially vulnerable in many scenarios. On a personal level I find it is the way that education, at all levels has progressed, possibly including the new IAM "Roadcraft" observer training standards which are governed by the IMI an organisation that I have little respect for, but time will tell.
  8. I haven't seen comments like this online since Operation Yewtree began its investigations. I'm not really sure how these comments link to child abuse? Especially on a forum supported by and about bikers?
  9. The power, or lack of, has nothing to do with how close you sit behind a lorry or car etc. First of all I can understand caution based on previous poor experience, it has probably happened to all of us at some point but....If the line of cars coming the other way left little room then you should have waited for them to pass thereby giving you lots of room and safety... Never compromise safety over position. Had your road craft been better you would have been in the right gear, at the right time, and at the correct speed/position to have read the corner better and not needed a second dab of the brakes..... Please don't read these as criticisms as they are just observations based on what you have written and my training I know wait to be corrected by TC
  10. I did the IAM course, had some great instruction on a one to one basic. Riding, then analysing the ride and getting feedback and ways to improve my riding before the next ride. Passed my test 4 years ago and have continued to improve since. Do I ride perfectly now? Certainly not. Has it made me a better rider? Definitely, my road positioning, forward observation skills and traffic awareness are much higher than they would have been without the course. I am now looking to be an accredited instructor when the chance arises. IAM or ROSPA are worth doing....you do the IAM once but with ROSPA you have to retake your test every three years so there are plus and minuses for each path you might choose.
  11. I found my Strom 65o loose but then I fitted a fork brace and change the tyre type (to Michelin PR4 Trails) and have no problems at all now. I have total confidence in my front end.
