  1. Hi guys I hope you don't mind me posting this here, but I'm doing a charity event in August, and I'm hoping a few lovely people here wouldn't mind making a donation to help! In August, a team from the office and I will be cycling from London to Paris over a week to raise money for Building Schools for Africa. I'm not entirely insane, so my bike has about 80 horses and I'm acting as a support rider to the 15 or 20 people we have making the ride. They are a great charity where every penny donated goes straight to the projects them complete, the people who run the charity fund all of their admin (including things like flights, they fly out multiple times per year) themselves, so absolutely nothing is wasted. The work they do over there really changes lives. So much of their country can be changed, and improved by better education, and by something a simple as helping to build a school so people can read and write will make so much of a difference to a community, and help them lift themselves out of poverty. I've set up a JustGiving page, and if you could spare anything at all, please do consider donating! http://www.justgiving.com/JoesLondon2ParisBikeRide Again, we would be extremely grateful for anything you could donate, it will make a massive difference!
  2. So I picked up a pair of their boots on the weekend - the last bit of kit I was missing. Seem pretty good quality all in all - very rigid, toe protectors seem solid, not much flex around the ankle etc. I haven't used them on the bike as yet as its currently dead ( ) but I'll keep you posted as soon as its up and running.
  3. To the OP: You can't set a gap. If the brakes are not binding then you're looking to cure a problem that doesn't exist Thanks Bogof, I'll leave it be then! Its not hard to push (I think) and is just a bit of an irritating noise at times. Somehow in my tinkering on the weekend - trying to find the loose wire to the gauge back lights that is stopping it working - I seem to have either blown a fuse (not checked yet, got irritated) or dislodged something equally important, as now the bike won't start. No lights, no fuel pump, nothing. Oops! I may chicken out and leave this one to a pro to sort to be honest.
  4. Thanks dude. So I can't set a gap, but there should be one. The brakes definitely need a clean/service in that case
  5. Hi eastanglianbiker I know the bulbs on the gauges are good as they come on intermittently with the wiring problem as mentioned above. In terms of the ignition itself, I can't see any plug, however I haven't stripped the wires all the way back - there is still electrical tape all over. I'm planning on taking a closer look this weekend
  6. first question - how much clearance should I have between the front pads and the discs? I'm pretty technially minded - i.e. can grab things quickly - but have no knowledge/experience on bikes/mechanics at the moment. Apologies for the probable constant stream of questions
  7. Hi folks, So I'm on a slow mission to bring my FZR back up to a decent condition - going to take a while, I've got lots on this year, but it will get there sooner or later. I've got a good to do list: -Front brakes need cleaning/servicing and probably pads - they are stuck out at the moment and rubbing on the front disc whilst riding -Full clean and tidy - oil/filters change, service etc -New Windscreen -powder coat the frame black -Paint the levers/wing mirrors solid black (have silver levers and tacky carbon fibre effect mirrors at the mo) -paint/powder coat the wheels bright yellow - may do the calipers to match -recover the seat -review the wiring and make sure its up to snuff, may need a new loom So a lot to do, but it will be worth it Starting point below:
  8. Hi folks, Do many people in/around Hampshire meet up at all? Particularly on the south coast, so Portsmouth, Southampton etc.
  9. I saw something about them also offering touring boots, and am actually popping into the store this weekend to buy a pair if so. I'll keep you all posted
  10. Hi folks, Hopefully someone can help I'm riding a 97 FZR600 and having a couple of electrical issues. The 2 main symptoms I have are: -No background lights to the guages - indicator lights, low fuel, neutral etc work fine -occasionally bike loses power and stalls. When pulling over, all the indicator etc lights work fine, however the starter motor won't turnover. Could not hear if the fuel pump still works. If I jiggle the wires at the back of the ignition barrel, this seems to fix the problem. Although I still have no lights to my gauges. The PO has done a bit of a bodge job on the bike - for example the reserve switch on the LHS fairing is not wired to anything, so there is electrical tape everywhere on this. I've opened it up a little bit around the ignition barrel, and there are the 2 wires which I believe to be the neutral and the live running to the ignition barrel. There are also 2 wires coming from the ignition barrel which are left loose and not connected to anything. There are 2 wires coming from the bike, but not connected to anything - they are just wired into one side of a plastic connector, with nothing connected to the other side. Would this be the source of the problem or should I look elsewhere? Many thanks in advance
