  1. The friend you mentioned, who laughed....she's just jealous because you are going to look super cool rocking up to places on a beast of a bike one day in your leathers and she secretly wishes she had the guts to do it herself. If you are anything like me, after a while 30mph won't feel as fast anymore, but 40 will feel too fast. Then after a bit longer, 40mph will feel fine but 50 will feel too fast. And so on and so forth. And then one day you will realise you are speeding on a dual carriageway and have to make yourself slow down!
  2. Hi, I have just advertised my 125 on Gumtree and I live just outside Grimsby so not far away from you. It is slightly over the budget you mentioned but have a look and see what you think. It is listed as Suzuki GN125 for sale. Nice bike....if I do say so myself!
  3. I passed my Mod 2 on Monday...what a huge relief! Mod 2 was first time but it took me 3 goes to pass my Mod 1...it's such an expensive and time consuming process, especially as there seems to be a real shortage of examiners at the moment. Anyhoo, I don't need to worry about that anymore! I have the lovely Roy (Royal Enfield Bullet) waiting to take me out and about when I get back from my holiday and I am very much looking forward to getting some miles in. Exciting times!
  4. Yep, in Hull. Mod 1 31st May and Mod 2 6th June. So you might want to stay off the roads on the 5th and until about 10 am on the 6th.
  5. Thanks...I'll check those roads / roundabouts out on the map. I'm thinking of doing it in Hull as I'm struggling to get lessons in where I live and the waiting times for tests is ridiculous...I just want to get passed and go bike shopping in time for the summer holidays! Thanks for those links, that's really helpful!
  6. I'm thinking of doing my DAS in Hull...but I don't live there and don't know the roads. Obviously it won't make any difference for Mod 1 and I assume I'll get a fair bit of riding around Hull on at least one of the days with the instructor. I can also study Google maps around the area of the test centre. Do you think it should be ok or is it foolish to do it somewhere you are not used to riding around? Anyone that has done it in Hull, are there certain roads that I am likely to have to go on?
  7. It's more the general position because of where the pegs are rather than my foot...when I sit on my bike my legs are in the same kind of position as if I'm sat on a chair. On the ER6 my legs are much further back. It's ok, I just prefer the feet forward position. When I pass my test I'm getting a Royal Enfield Bullet though and when I sat on one of those it was perfect...as if it was made to measure! I can cope with my feet back while I pass my test . Thanks for the advice though.
  8. Well, I had my lesson and it was fine. It was easier out on the road than in the area at the riding school...I was getting a bit frustrated with myself in the school as I just can't seem to brake smoothly on it yet. It's just different to my bike...guess a bit of time on it will sort that out. Out on the roads I had other things to think about so the braking seemed to come together better. Based on what it was like for me, I think it might feel weird at first to you but it's not too scarey at all and after a bit you'll probably feel ok. I still don't like where the foot pegs are though!
  9. I had an intro session on one of those the other week...just did a bit of slow stuff in the school and it was fine. The strangest bit was the foot pegs being in a different place to on my bike (further back). Actually riding it seemed ok though. I have a proper lesson booked on it on the 30th which is possibly around the same time as you...We will have to compare notes!
  10. Just wondering why the Suzuki GN125 never seems to get a mention in these lists. That's what I've got...have very little to compare it to but it is very forgiving of me as a newbie, is a good make, does the job and looks pretty good. Well I think it does anyway. So why do they so rarely get a mention? I'm genuinely curious...anyone any ideas?
