  1. Could you ride a Yamaha Nikken? I could, but not legally, I never past a test. I was informed by the DVLA that I must have enough power in my hands or legs to be able to lock the wheels. I've sent an email to Trike Shop to ask what they can offer, thank you for the suggestion. Alan.
  2. Afternoon all, I've spoken to several aftermarket manufacturers, but only one can supply me with a unit that is compatible and the price to include installation is going to be as I've already mentioned, almost £2,000. Hel make a thumb operated one, but it's not got enough power to lock up the rear wheel, so will not be a safe alternative. Rekluse do not make anything for the Can-am, but it's something they may look into. I've been to the dealers again this morning and tried the trike and even with the brake pedal lifted into the highest operating position, is still not in a place to allow me to use it in a safe manner, so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place and now looking for alternatives, so if anyone can point me in the direction of a company or someone with a good engineering background, please let me know. Back to the drawing board. Thank you. Alan.
  3. Thank you, I should have mentioned, I've spoken to NABD before, but they could offer me nothing, but I could always ask again. Cheers.
  4. Hi all, long time no see, I have a valid reason, I fell over outside my house at the end of June last year and badly damaged the remainder of my right leg, the flesh, nerve and tendon/ligaments took a beating and I have less movement than I had previous, following this, my doctor and the DVLA have decided I can no longer ride a two wheel bike, but my doctor suggested I look at a Can-am or the 3 wheel scooters by the likes of Peugeot, Piaggio etc. I tried a Piaggio MP3, but I cannot get my prosthetic leg in a position for me to ride comfortably. Last week I went to see a Ryker, I found it comfortable, but because of the only brake being on the right footrest, this leaves me at a disadvantage as I cannot operate the brake with feeling, pressure and confidence. I've asked a few specialists if it's possible to fit a handlebar mounted lever to work like a dual linked system that some bikes have, but none could make anything that they would feel safe installing for me, so I thought I was stuck. Until I was pointed towards a company in America called ISCI, the trouble is, these are almost £2000 supplied and installed in the UK and is very very restrictive financially for me. Does anyone know of an alternative or are there any members with an engineering background who can make me something, even if it entails removing the foot lever to aid installation? Thank you. Alan.
  5. Otherwise can you rebuild the one you have? I can't as I don't have one
  6. As above please or suggestion on what else might fit. Thank you. Alan.
  7. Once again, I thank you for your input, I checked on the GOV website earlier and it seems the Vulcan cannot be use for the test ofter January 1st 2019, so it seems that idea is out of the window. I'll have to keep looking. Onwards and upwards.
  8. My guy I know has an 05 Kawsaki Vulcan 750 with 30K miles on it. It has a full MOT, fairly new tyres and according to my mate, is good gondition, but obviously not mint. All of this lovliness for just over a grand, I've known him for several years and can honestly say, he is a decent chap, so I don't think he's the type to stiff me. I've spoken to my instructor and he reckons that as I'm disabled, the test station might be lenient and give me a little leeway, as long as I'm in control and stable during the tests and can show that I am safe, I should have no issues. What do you all think?
  9. Thanks for replies, I considered the SV, but I have limited movement in my right leg, from straight, I can only bend it to about 80 degrees, so getting and keeping my foot on the footrest is impossible, which is why I thought about the Yamaha Dragstar 650. I looked at an XV535 a few years ago, but my mate tried and didn't like the way it handled, after looking at it from the rear, it was clear to see the frames was twisted and the wheels were out of line, so, it was left alone. Alan.
  10. No, not the film, but I am a little baffled, Just over two years ago, I passed my CBT and Theory, I managed one riding lesson and promptly had a seizure a day later, after several hospital visits to see specialists, I was promptly stopped from driving for a year. After getting my license back, I noticed there was no motorcycle entitled on it, after a call to Swansea, I was informed that I would have to wait a year after getting my car license back. then I could apply for the motorcycle provisional again. I now have it back, but understand that I will have to take the CBT again, I'm OK with that, but will I have to do the theory again? Another issue, is I'm weaker on my right side than my left, I dare say, I could do what I did before, but the strength is not there, my own bike is a Bandit 600 that I intended to take the tests on, I've had it modified with a left hand thumb brake as I cannot use the foot brake on the right side and the riding school has nothing I could use. It is a bit tall and heavy and I'm wondering if a cruiser like the 650cc Yamaha Dragstar would be a better option, as it has forward controls, so easier for me to operate? I have a little bit of money put away and was looking forward to starting again in the spring. Any suggestions and opinions would be gratefully recieved. Alan.
  11. Hi all, sorry I've not been on for a while, t ' internet issues. I've bought a bike, a 96 Bandit 600 and I'm having a thumb brake made from Suzuki rear brake system, it should be with me on Thursday, get it fitted then I'm up and running. Just have to sort some brake hose and brake fluid.
  12. In "certain" magazines, there's a section called readers wives, how about a section on the TMBF called "riders wives" or "wives rides"? Just a thought.
  13. Fishing, making fishing flies or running the local fishing club and anglers association. Shooting, reloading ammunition and helping run the local clay pigeon club. Cooking family meals, pickling and making chutnies. Road cycling and mountain biking. Building/repairing computers. Maybe the odd pint now and then.
  14. Is there a time and a place for spontaneity?
