24.05.2016 - Fuel shortages in France

In case you have missed it and you have a trip planned in the coming weeks that involves France please be aware that there are strikes involving some of the oil refineries being blockaded and in some areas petrol stations have run out completely according to the news. Rationing is also taking place in some areas that have fuel.

I have seen a couple of posts on other Forums where guys have run out of fuel.

Nice one, I'll keep eye on this , I'm going in a few weeks, mind you I'll have someone to push the bike if I run out .. The Mrs is coming

Your not wrong , just looked at the news reports about it , fighting , fires... They like a burning tyre out there .

"Long term lurker here, signed up as ive spent the last few days stranded in this f**king country

All petrol stations in the north and west are either on the bones of their arse or completely dry of all fuel. The ones that are open are rationing it and have 1hr + queues.

I've been stuck in the loire valley since Saturday morning when my reserve got low and every petrol station i passed was shut. Spent a few days in a hotel there before realising no unleaded was turning up in the foreseeable so have stashed bike with hotel owners, bussed it to nearest big town and got TGV to Paris where ive picked up a cheap flight to Seville, where i was headed on the bike.

Dont come to france until this is sorted, its carnage."

Any forecast for how long this will go on? A bunch of my mates have a trip all booked in a few weeks time and seem pretty confident that it will all have blown over by then...

Days rather than weeks. although the french are a bit revolutionary and very pro union.. patience will very quickly run thin once the entire country grinds to a halt.. and especially once the food supply begins to run out. I wouldnt worry too much.. the less positive side though is how long it will take for everything to revert to normal. thats rather more tricky.

if the break is booked for within france. then it might be worthwhile looking at a plan B.

I wouldn't worry, you what they're like. They'll burn some tyres and a few sheep on a motorway then just carry on as usual....

Kind of buggers my 10 days.. I had nothing booked (never do) was thinking an escape to see my sister near Cannes... INstead it looks like I will have some more mundane work to do...

Any one heard if the fuel situation is getting back to normal in France , all I've found is reports about public transport strikes that might happen ... the petrol reports are all 4 or 5 days old.
