  1. I had a Honda CB250RS that some clown used 1/4 Whitworth set screws to bolt the cam cover down to the cylinder-head...5 of 'em, bought a 6mm helicoil kit of 'the net', was careful.....worked a treat.
  2. I thought that but looking at a certain G310R repair site there's a guy repairing the starter clutch on one and it's VERY Rotax-ish, not simple like pretty much all Japanese bikes but wildly unnecessarily over complicated and held together with a 'garter' spring. The Rotax engines as were fitted to those last MZ and Matchless 'singles plus others have an identical design clutch. I'm not at all sure about BMW's involvement with this model. it could just be that there's just a bloke at the factory gates waving goodbye to 'em.
  3. Age related this. I'd had a Kawasaki ER6F for 10 years and was a far better bike than I had expected, not 'fast' but 'quick', riding it no problem but having to man-handle it's weight in the garage etc was getting a bit much so buying something lighter was not an option. A mate of mine turned up at Dinkey's Dinah near Shrewsbury 3 years ago with a Beemer G310R which I didn't know they made which I tried for size then went to Rybrook in Wolverhampton where they had a pre-registered new one for sale for £3500 instead of £4500, and a 3-year warranty, at that price I couldn't say 'no'. They're made in India by FVS with what appears to be a Rotax engine and weigh 150-odd kg. It's a great little bike, nicely finished, handles well, cruises at 70mph easily, tops out at 90+ apparently, 80+mpg. The only hiccup was the replacement water pump and a modified RH engine cover under warranty no argument. I didn't buy it because it's a BM but because it's light but still physically a 'big' bike, it's quick enough, I can manage it, and it came at a damn' good price and as I'm now 78 it'll probably see me out of bikes........but you never know.
  4. I've got a 'cheapo' 'BOX' helmet and surprisingly it gets a 4 Star rating in a SHARP test....I'm more than a little impressed.
  5. A Laverda 3CL Jarama I bought new in '82...........best bike I ever had.....,thrashed it throughout Europe attending bike rallies, never let me down, heavy old blighter mind you.
  6. Bianchi Tonale 175 OHC Non runner Triumph Sports Cub T20SH new. BSA 441 Shooting Star new..very disappointing. Triumph 65 Thunderbird Outfit. Ducati Mk3 250 new great little bike. Triumph T100, used and unreliable. Triumph T100 Daytona new fragile. Norton 750 Commando 'Combat' new total rubbish, dreadful. Honda CB750 ohc new boring. Honda CB400F new great bike wildly underrated. Laverda 3CL 980 triple Jarama new wonderful. best bike I ever owned stupidly I sold it. Laverda SF750 hard work. Kawasaki ER6F nearly new a great bike much better than you'd expect.Kept it 10 years. Bloke who bought it wrote it off almost immediately. BMW G310R new still got it, in a real world it's all I need at 75 Never been without at least one roadworthy bike since 1964 and still doin' it !.
  7. Pleased the job's done stumblebum, bit of a bugger when 'they' need to start messing about with the spine. I had a 'double decrompression' to two discs at the base of my spine ten years ago, takes a lot of getting over and you never forget that you're forever 'vulnerable'. Made me 80% pain free compared to before (slipped discs) that's good enough for me. Best of luck, chin(s) up, you'll get there !.
  8. Millets sell this proofing stuff too..........'bout 8 Quid a spraycan. Must say that in a lifetime of biking I've never found totally waterproof clobber, water resistant yes, but not waterproof. My bits & bobs have danced in water since 1964 !.
  9. Don't think that Rossi has or can get over the sad Simoncelli incident that he and Colin Edwards got involved in on top of which I think that he's now 'yesterday's man'. I wouldn't be too suprised if Honda don't take a hard look at Cal Crutchlow for 2013, he's one of the few riders who can ruin a full works 'star's day though the prime choice has to be Marc Marquez but he'd have to be a 'satellite' team rider for his first year in GP.
  10. That rubber matting (cheap at Wilkinsons) a bit late for me but will get some just the same. Thanks for suggesting !.
  11. As long as your fuel tank is steel you should have no problems with security, BUT every time you're going to attach it just check that the magnets haven't 'picked up' any odd grains of metal as I scratched my tank the first trip I did with it !.
  12. Dare..........'Belief'/'Beneath the Shining Water'.
