  1. Thanks for all your replies! Unfortunately I had none of the above so went with a toothbrush and paraffin it's working a treat coming up cleaner than I imagined although from my first post I have only done one side of rear frame the Swingarm and sprocket etc on chain side... I've never seen so much gunk in my life it's easily a cm thick! Stopped for a swift tab break and crack open a can (well deserved) and now about to start on the other side... I'm hoping that as long as I wipe it down thoroughly and then give a good clean with some car shampoo and rinse off and polish it should be ok using paraffin... could well end up a 2 day job though
  2. Started stripping down the bike to give it a real good clean and it's way worse than I imagined... can I use paraffin as a degreaser all over the bike I e on the frame Swingarm around my pegs and brackets etc etc? It's really thick of black gunk but don't want to use paraffin for my bike to burst into flames when it's rode? Tried to upload pics but they're too large
  3. How much would you expect to pay to have it fitted? I've been quoted 25 as I have thought about buying online and then just getting it fitted
  4. Well the wet weather has well and truly arrived in the north east! So no riding today.. I have however been out and bought every cleaning product possible to give the new girl a well deserved clean this week! Also got a quote for a bt023 while I was out 130 quid fitted... seems a little more than I expected I can get a bt016 fitted at my local honda for 110... and the maxxis fitted for 100 at an independent garage... still unsure as to what to go for and pay day is vastly approaching
  5. Thanks for the replies! It's a 97 model f-w and I think I'm going to stick with what I know and get a battlax... I'm sure my life is worth the extra 20 quid! Cheers guys
  6. Ok so I bought my bike on Tuesday (cbr600f) and the rear tyre has reached the limiter bits on the tread in the middle. Just been and priced a tyre and asked for an all round touring type tyre.. I was recommended a maxis the size is 160/60/17 I think and I done the noob thing and forgot to find out exactly which maxis tyre it is. Does anyone have any history with these tyres are they sufficient I was gonna go with bt016 as I've had them on a previous bike but the maxis is 76 and bt016 is 106... is it worth paying the extra for the battlax or with the maxis suffice... btw I'm not the most extrodianery rider and only just got back on a bike after 2 years off so no rossi style riding will apply!
  7. Hi I learned with a1 training school just around the corner from the metro centre attached to the car sales place. I have to say I can't fault them one little bit. Brilliant people brilliant tuition and not only that they're a right old laugh! I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed going and doing my lessons with them. They are really friendly and give very good advice and train you to well above the standard required to pass. This was all back in 2012.. I bought myself a cbr600f on Tuesday and the first thing I done was pop in to say hello still the same faces (a family ran business) they will bend over backwards to help you.. They remembered me from 2012.. We had a good bit crack on for an hour or so in their yard and then I left with a massive smile on my face. Really can't recommend them enough! I checked prices for my friend to do his full test. Currently rides a cbf 125 and has cbt.. 600 quid or there abouts to get 14 hours training theory mod 1 and 2 all in a week and a half.. I think that's very reasonable Good luck with your training! Jack
  8. Hi just wondering if anyone can give my advice.. I'm planning on going to the tt races this year and I've been on the website and they have a pass for the ferry with 1 person 1 motorcycle and 6 days camping for 298 I think it is... my girlfriend will be riding pillion but I only have the option to pay for the option twice... but that will make it 2 motorbikes which I don't need. I can't find an option to just add a passenger to ferry and camping. Does anyone have any experience of this. Any help will be greatly appreciated... bought my cbr600f on Tuesday after not riding since 2012 and absolutely loving being back on the bike! Thanks in advance for any help! Jack
  9. Just been having a browse online and found that London leathers do rossi rep leathers for 370 which is pretty good price and they seem like a genuine leather making company but would have to look further in to this also found that the replica lids are agv k3 has anybody had any history with one of these lids are they any good etc as the ones I'm finding are around 160 mark and thought they would be more as the ones in custom lids on the hill are like 500 quid
  10. yeah very good point! dont think my brain stretched far enough to think about that DOH! think i have been dazzled by the nice colours. then again i see a lot of race replicas that claim to be tested etc on ebay for around 400? they are also uk sellers? does this mean that these are cheap replicas and wont protect my ass if i come off..... touch wood i dont! but im sort of stumped as to where to look?
  11. Been looking into this recently as i have a rk sports 2 piece set really nice dont get me wrong but i really fancy something fancy like repsol one piece or the rossi ducati reps look cool all bright and stand out however there really arent many places to find them and when you do find them there a bomb! i have been informed they are from a place in pakistan where they make hundred of them and they can be found at a seriosuly reduced price if found in the right place around about the price of a normal set of leathers which i paid 200 for mine... does anybody have replica leathers or know where to find them cheap as possible even what theyre like etc? really could do with some information on this so i came to the guys that know it all! BTW im looking t get my set of leather to hopefully be trading in my old 15 year old zzr6 next year for something new maybe a nice shiny ninja.... I Lurrrveeeee the orange ones! Also i know this is kinda in the wrong place but hey ho saves me doing 2 threads. do places that sell new ish and very clean bikes eg MandS on the hill in newcastle upon tyne take trade in for old bikes or do they not take trade in for bikes that old meaning i would have to sell my bike privately then go and use the money as deposit for my new one? All help is much appreciated!
  12. ok so last june i passed my cbt mod 1 and mod 2 got my full license and since i was 20 years old i am restricted to 33bhp.... am i right in thinking that after 2 years so june 2014 i will be able to ride any motorbike i want any power etc with no restrictions on my license? as i know the tests etc are changing but i dont have to do anymore tests at all do i? ive passed all of my tests and come june 2014 i can send off to DVLA to give me my license without restrictions? thanks in advance
  13. yeah thanks Im gonna try and get to the hill tomorrow and get some oil and a filter and get it done tomorrow afternoon ive just checked their website and they do oil in 4 litres so hopefully that gives me enough if im right in thinking i release the bolt on the bottom and drain it all then release the oil filter and drain that.... then put a bit of new oil in the bike to wash out the rest of the crap then lube the new oil filter with a bit of new oil with my finger then put the new oil filter on and tighten about quater turn from when it first grips? then put the plug back in the bottom with new washer? and fill up to top line then start and watch it go down a little then top up to near the top line and voila? i havent actually serviced the bike myself but i bought it just after it was mot'd by previous owner and had proof receipts of everything done so its basically a year ago im hoping everything is ok just gets me a little worried incase things go tits up with the bike gonna give her a good clean and service and hope she runs smooth with a smile on her face will let everyone know the outcome...... praying for nice weather tomorrow to take her for a long ride haha!
  14. may sound stupid but how many litres of oil will my zzr600 hold if i completely drain it then refill with new oil? i duno how much to buy lol
