  1. You do know that the Alps are really quite high don't you? So there are often snow on the tops even during summer.
  2. In the last 16 years of living in France I have never been asked to: show my reflective helmet stickers; reflective areas on my jackets; my alcohol test gadget; etc etc. The things the law over here are REALLY bothered about is your safety and nicked bikes. So you need to show that: you have dressed sensibly - helmet, jacket, gloves etc; You can prove who you are (passport original with you); You have a license to ride/drive (original drivers license, both parts for a UK one) You are the owner/registered keeper of the bike you are riding (Original of registration document) If you've got these taken care of, you are good to go in France.
  3. Have you got alloy wheels on your bike? Are the balance weights the type that clip to the wheel rim?
  4. Congrats Gollop on your Mod 2 result today. So you're going straight for a sports bike eh? The R6 is quite an extreme high rev monkey tbh. I rode one a few years and was really disappointed with it - no torque or power below about 8,000rpm !!! Good luck on your search, Dave
  5. Just come back from an 11th November memorial service, very moving. Why can't we work out a better way to settle our differences ?
  6. Hi Shorty, did you know it's only 440 kms (275 mls) from Port Le Havre to Avallon - easy run in a day I'd have thought? Especially if you get the boat through the night with a bunk, then you arrive at about 7am and have all day to get there. The area round there is really lovely. Very low traffic and great roads - what's not to like. And this area is rightly famous for it's quite fabulous wine and great food.
  7. H FMF, just a thought about cam-chain tensioning. In most every engine the tensioner (manual or auto) presses against a chain slide made from a nylo/plastic material. Being made out of this kind of stuff, over the years it wears and if left long enough actually breaks up, so maybe it would be a good idea to the condition of the slides, as well as the tensioner.
  8. Well the thing is, America has got what it voted for, and in a first past the post style voting system with only two possible candidates this is what happens. Only time will tell now. Personally I can't see the point of re-hashing what's happened in the past, that's done.
  9. http://election.news.sky.com/us-election Looks pretty definitive to me..? The Skynews page certainly looks more clear cut, the BBC page still talks about projections, so maybe it truly is a done deal. UPDATE: BBC website still showing 278 for Trump, whereas Sky page showing 289 - both pages reloaded to ensure latest info. This is what I mean, I doubt that the definitive vote is in.
  10. One thing I'm not clear about is that Trump (and everyone else) is claiming victory, but the RESULTS are not yet in - as far as I can see the outcome being reported is just on 'projections' whatever that means. Can't we just wait for the actual results, before throwing ourselves off the cliff ??
  11. To me it feels like (imagine deep voice ) "Brexit II - The Yanks do it too!"
  12. I had Conti's on my 1190 Adventure and in the dry (like any tyre!) they felt fine, but in the wet I felt really timid, didn't like 'em at all. Tyre pressures are crucial so do check them first. Re the alignment question I find a metal ruler on the rear sprocket and compared with the chain is as good as anything to verify the alignment. However, more than anything else, the only way to get over a lack of confidence is to do the miles, and lots of 'em.
  13. Life on Mars - brilliant program with a excellent cast and great script - "It's 11 'o clock and I'm 'aving 'oops !" Heartbeat, very nice. From a gentler time that did exist in the North of Yorkshire. Been to the village and surrounding areas where it was filmed, on a biking week-end away.
  14. Hi there fro, if I were you I would buy meself a few litres of Xylophine woodworm treat from your local B&Q - then using a paste brush slap it on the beams, let it dry for at least 12 hrs then do it again and once more, then you'll have no more trouble with worms - well in yer joists anyways
  15. Don't they have ANY shame, or self respect ?
