  1. Yep, it's bad news, the piston has been rattling away inside the bore and has scored the surface heavily. The mechanic still adjusted the valve clearances and other bits so I can ride it at my own risk, only charged me £20 for half hours work. I have since ordered a last of it's kind replacement engine from eBay with 7k on the clock and will be fitting it tomorrow and hopefully all my problems will be sorted from there. Many thanks for the assistance! I will post here again with some follow up pictures!
  2. I did as you recommended and true to what you initially thought, the sound was coming more from the lower part. I have subsequently taken the bike to my local garage and they suggested adjusting the tappets, since they do sound slightly out. They also mentioned fiddling with the "commander" and going from there. The rest of the sound is apparently normal for this engine as its a noisy one in general (identical to the one used in the XLR, similar build to the CG engine). I will pick up the bike tomorrow and let you know the outcome and improvements, if any! Will post another video too to compare. I've never owned a 125 that is essentially 18 years old now. It amazes me how the thing still goes and is much nipper than the newer bikes/scooters I've had!
  3. Good morning all, I am new to the world of forums and am seeking some advice. I picked up a non running Honda CLR Cityfly 125 1999 for £400 with 33k on the clock. It is in great condition and after simply adjusting the throttle screw and playing about with the carb, the engine now runs. The carb was spotless inside and when I changed the oil, there was no grit or particles to make me believe there is anything sinister wrong with the moving parts in the engine. There is a high end tapping noise coming from the cylinder head and I think a valve adjustment will fix this?? Here is a video of the bike running, let me know what you guys think : https://youtu.be/oPkSuDPyc_s The bike rides fine but the noise is annoying to say the least.
