  1. Thanks for all the responses, I'll look at getting it fixed asap. When we were riveting one of the links, I think we put a bit too much pressure on it. This isn't my chain but this is similar to what my link looks like (the one on the right)[img][ Not sure if you can see but there is a crack on the link on the right. I'll also look at my wheel alignment as well.
  2. Hi! I did some maintenance on my kawa er6f yesterday. I replaced the chain and sprockets as the chain wear was really uneven even thought the bike has only done 2500 miles. When riveting on the soft link, one of them cracked. I wasn't able to replace them straight away as I only had one in the pack. I plan to change this soon but can I ride this in the meantime or is it a definite no until i get a new soft link? Also, do you think I can take this to a mechanic for them to just replace the link? I'm a bit worried about doing it again and the same thing happening. Thanks, S
  3. Thanks for the input. I've gone with an alarmed disc lock and an Oxford HD lock and chain. I'll keep the chain in my backpack which will be cargo netted to my bike. I'll get the datatag kit as well.
  4. I have an er6f which has next to no underseat storage. When looking at security options for running errands, going to the gym etc should I go with two disclocks or one disclock and one small chain that I can fit under the seat? What about a shackle lock? I don't want to have to carry a big lock in my backpack and I don't have any other luggage on the bike. Thanks
  5. thanks everyone, I'm going to do some more training when I'm back on my bike (currently have a broken foot due to the accident). I like the idea of covering the brake during filtering though so I might start that straight away.
  6. HI, Were any of you taught two finger braking when learning to ride? I wasn't (passed my DAS last year) but my Dad who passed 20+ years ago cant believe that i wasn't taught it. I came off my bike last month due to a pedestrian stepping into the road and I wonder if I had been covering my brake with 2 fingers if i would have missed her? Thanks,
  7. So this is it!!! It doesn't have crash bungs yet and I would like to get some so if anyone has experience fitting them to a 10 plate er6f, please let me know. I can't find a lot about it online.
  8. We haven't been swindled into paying for training. Most training schools are very upfront with the cost of the tests. You are paying to hire a bike from them, for training and for an escort to the test centre. You can't ride a 600cc bike without an instructor on public roads I believe so where are you going to practice? If you are really experienced, most schools should give you a 2/3 day option for around £400. How much will it cost you to insure the bike for one / two days?
  9. I've put a deposit down and i should be picking it up on saturday!!! It felt great, the height was right. i wasn't flat footed on both sides but i felt comfortable enough and it was in an upright enough position for me as well.
  10. It's a private sale. It's definitely the bike I want and I've sat on newer versions at bike shows. I don''t want to buy it then find out I hate how it handles, although I don't have much to compare it to. I think as long as the riding position is ok and I can comfortably reach things then I should be fine I hope!
  11. Hi all, I'm going to have a look at a bike today which looks like a pretty good deal. I passed my test in September and was on an SV650 for that. This is an ER6F and I've never ridden one before. The bike is sorn so I won't be able to ride it before I buy. Is this a massive issue? I know I want something which is quite upright (I had a go on the R6 at Motorcycle Live and hated the positioning). Can anyone give me an idea of what the positioning is like for short people? I'm 5ft2 so my choice in bikes is a little limited. Thanks, Sarah
  12. Thanks for all the responses. I hadn't heard of the train so that is definitely an option. i think I may ride down one way and then take the ferry or train on the way back to minimise all the riding. Lots to think about!
  13. Hi, I'm looking at doing a trip in the summer from London to San Sebastian (or a nearby surf resort). I'm pretty keen to travel down on a bike and I wanted to know if anyone has done this before and if there are any routes they would advise. It'll be around a two week trip with about 3 days travel to get to Spain, 7 days surfing and then 4 days to get back to London. Any advice at all? I don't want to do huge days riding so I'm happy to extend the trip by a day or two if necessary. I'm also trying to keep the costs down so a ferry from Santander back to the UK is out of the question. Thanks!
  14. I passed my Mod 2 yesterday! Third time lucky for me again (mod 1 took three go's too!).So glad its done now and I have the license. Just need to save for a bike now! I had this test at a different place to my 1st and 2nd tests. My questions were about carrying pillions, checking the horn and showing how you would check the brake fluid. The ride itself was ok,there wasn't anything I thought I should get a serious fault for. My mouth got really dry from being open for the first five minutes though. I was trying to do some slow meditative breathing through my mouth to calm my nerves. It's strange, I've been driving a car for 10 years but as soon as I'm on my test I become super conscious about speed limits to the point I have a minor panic on every road I go on which doesn't have a speed limit on it. I had to remind myself that if I was in a car I'd be doing 30 without a second thought! My DAS journey started in June and its taken a lot more time and money than I anticipated but so, so happy to have passed!
