A question, I read somewhere it might only result I in overcharging. But hoped it might be responsible for the undercharging.....

Have you checked the engine kill switch is off? Always add pictures of Brandy the dog Phil. Always! Is it worth mentioning also, that a faulty regulator would only result in OVERcharging? Or also under?
