  1. Apologies for the resurrection but did you take a motorbike when you went to bloodstock? If so what did you do about parking? Or does anyone know if you can park motorbikes their safely?
  2. Don't buy any gear til you've done your CBT, they'll have stuff to wear and you might decide you hate riding bikes. Personally this depends on what you ride. (I know this'll be controversial). Helmet is compulsory, by law and why the heck wouldn't you anyway? Gloves are essential. Unless your a moron. But you can ride without them if you are... Everybody should wear a motorcycle jacket with a protective armour in it, even scooter riders. Secondhand one can be picked up fairly cheaply. People on motorcycles should have protected trousers as well, scooter riders can get away with sturdy jeans (although kevlar jeans are fairly cheap and recommended but not essential). Again secondhand one can be picked up fairly cheap. Motorcycle boots are essential for motorcyclists, scooter riders can get away with any sturdy boots but again why wouldn't you wear the clothing designed for the thing your doing when your life is at stake? Would you walk into a pit of rabid lions with just a loin cloth on or would you wear riot gear if you had the choice. Getting on your motorbike is walking into a pit of lions and not only that a pit of lions who will suffer far less from the consequences of their rage driven misdemeanours than you as the man with the loin cloth, so wear riot gear instead.
  3. So any ideas as to what on earth could have caused this. Yamaha Cygnus X 125 Casually riding along a nearby main road (60mph limit, I was doing closer to 50mph) when all of a sudden I felt like I was losing the back wheel and gradually lost all power. Pull bike over to the side of the road before it completely cuts out and absolutely no chance of it starting again. After waiting a few hours for the man from the RAC and then another hour or so for the recovery truck I'm back home. When I was at the roadside bike seemed to try to start but just not actually start completely on doing so, occasionally it just wouldn't even try. Lights/electrics all seem to work fine. There's a loose cable (blue and gold wires inside a black cable) hanging out the side by the throttle, but the two in and out of the throttle are in place. RAC man came expecting to just be putting cable back in place but upon trying to start it suggest the chain inside the engine was broken due to the unhealthy sound the bike was making so arranged a recovery truck. Is this fixable or would it need an entire new engine? Firstly I'm mad at myself for not noticing the problem before it actually cut out, in hindsight the bike had been slow to accelerate whilst riding before it cut out. Secondly, I'm really getting fed up with this bike, it's literally just come out of the garage the other day for a minor issue (that a more experienced person could have fixed themselves fairly easily) and already had a new battery since a bought it. Only had it four months as well An all round shit day given I was almost knocked off by some moron trying to overtake me and rather than drop back as traffic was slowing on a dual carriageway just cut into the side of me as if I wasn't there whilst trying to overtake me (in full hi-vis motorcycle clothing - I wasn't hard to see) for an upcoming roundabout and forcing me to take evasive action by flying onto the little white lined area at the side of the road that cyclists seem to have designated a cycle lane (thankfully none there when I had to do that). And yes I had slowed down to make room for him as much as I could, the space just wasn't there. Sorry this is turning into a bit of rant but an all round shit day.
  4. Good to know. Probably try and arrange one in a few weeks time if there's a bit more interest.
  5. Ah fair enough. There's a lot of subfora on here easy to get mixed up. Wish you luck in finding something more local.
  6. South Lancashire, but I can travel within a reasonable distance on days off.
  7. Anyone interested in some 125 (scooters and bikes welcome) in the North West [open to bigger bikes, on the understanding you'll probably have to leave us behind or park up and wait at times) ride outs now that the weather is getting better. Getting a bit sick of doing long miles on my own, so would be nice to meet other riders in the area. Noticed in the other thread there was a few 125 riders, have you all upgraded or still around and up for this? Be good if you could respond to this if you interested with preferred days, preferred mileage/roads.
