  1. Thanks Fast Bob. Ill remove the engine. I don't want to stop the engine down however as I have never rebuilt one before and don't feel comfortable doing it on my own. Will I get a good enough finish with the engine as a whole? Cheers - Steve
  2. Rick/Stu - thanks for your replies. I could remove the pulse generator cover, sprocket cover etc. without any real issues and polish them up, but, the cylinder heads all need cleaning up, the flakey paint blasted/sanded off and then the whole thing respraying. If this can be done whilst in the frame then that would be sweet, but not sure if I could and it would deliver a good result? P.s. the bike is a 1996 Kawasaki ZR550. Cheers - Steve
  3. Thanks Husoi - I suppose I could just take it out of the frame, its a project bike after all. I'm just a little nervous as the engine runs sweet so I don't want to cock anything up, similarly I want to do a good job so if removal is the best route I'll go that way. Cheers - Steve
  4. Hi everyone, has anyone ever painted their engine cases whilst the engine is in the frame? Engine runs fine do don't really want to strip it and remove but i needs the casings cleaning and spraying quite badly. Any tips? Cheers - Steve
  5. Thanks for all of the welcomes everyone. Ill post some pics of the bike tomorrow. Few questions of the bat, im looking to change the front forks for some upside downs that are a little lower, any idea which forks to look at? Thinking ZXR400 perhaps? Cheers - Steve
  6. Hi everyone, just saying a quick hello. Names Steve and live in Lancashire. Been riding bikes for around 13 years now but had a break for a few years away from bikes due to work and life in general. Anyhow, I was looking to get back into bikes and picked up a 96 Kawasaki ZR550 as a cafe project a few weeks ago, I don't have any bike builder experience so it should be fun and a good learning experience if nothing else. Started stripping the bike down last week, in general its not in too bad a shape and it's had cafe work in the past to the sub frame etc has already been modified which saves me a job. Lots to do though on it, want to change the forks, add clip ons, new rear sets, new suspension, full rewire and of course the usual safety things like bearing changes, caliper rebuilds etc. Any tips or hints appreciated when it comes to selecting parts. Anywho, expect lots of questions (which I apologise for in advance) and if you're close by, fancy and fancy a socially distanced brew (for the time being) then be my guest. Cheers - Steve
