  1. I can understand taking the time an effort to restore something like a 1980s GS1000 but a GT750? I had one and they're a capable bike but it would be hard to find a bike more boring.
  2. Twice in one day in 1983. GS550E. Dropped on entry to university ring road - ice. Later the same day dropped it when parking outside my house - ice. And they are bloody heavy to pick up on your own!
  3. In the past I've borrowed a Yamaha 125cc 4 stroke scooter and a Piaggio 250cc scooter. Both did the job well. But for me, not just fast enough. But for around town etc not bad at all.
  4. I only have the bike because it's miles cheaper and I'm a stingy bast*rd. Bike does 50mpg easily and car did 40. Road tax was 240 quid for the car - much less for the bike. Insurance for the bike 80 quid a year, car 37 quid a month. And the bike is much more fun. Although it's not ideal, I have to admit, when moving 25kg sacks of rabbit food.
  5. Back in the mists of time when I were a lad motorbikes were there as a cheap and practical form of transport. Some bikes still are, like the Kawasaki GT550. I bought this bike as a way of spending less on fuel, road tax, insurance, servicing and (here in France) motorway tolls. This bike is not the latest greatest pocket rocket but is a supremely well put together form of transport. Engine. 4 cylinder four. Pulls well from 3k plus in any gear. Compared to a GSXR600 it's as slow as a snail but compared to most cars it's very quick. Top speed 110 and 0 to 60 in 5.1 seconds. Cruises easily at 80mph. Riding position. Wide comfy seat and upright position. Means you don't need an osteopath after riding it. But the lack of a fairing means for long distance stuff wind blast can be tiring but speeds of 70mph are OK. Running costs. Hard to tell because I've had the bike for a few weeks only but it does around 50mpg and with shaft drive there's no problem with chains and sprockets wearing out. Also, because it's not that fast I suspect tyres will last well. Practicality. I love practicality. A rear rack comes as standard. And two helmet locks. Living with the beast. I've ridden lots of sexy bikes - Ducati 600ss, GSXR600, Buelle XBR9. But this bike is better than any of them IF you want a sensible practical cheap bike. It goes from A to B faster than a car, costs sod all to run and is comfortable. Which explains why so many despatch riders used them (and the 750cc version). Despatcher riders can't be wrong. 6. I had a GPZ in 2007 and I loved it. Handling was good, it was light, the engine was loony. The regularly used to ride from Lancashire to France on it at ahem, more than 70mph and it was great. OK, the build quality is not the best but fast, comfortable and cheap.
  7. Racevisors 30.99 quid. Seems like a shitload of money for a piece of clear plastic.
  8. I want one for a HJC helmet - online price was about 33 quid! Are there any cheaper suppliers out there?
  9. Whether you ride a bike or drive a car, just expect everyone else on the road to do something stupid. That way you won't die.
