  1. Very reluctant sale due to age (me not the bike) This very clean example has had a very easy life being in storage for a total of 21 years. (only one previous local owner) low millage 27,500 All original except for stainless header pipes & chrome exhaust 4 into 1 Recent new battery, new tyres fitted (200 miles since fitment) Mot July 2020 Serviced new oil & filter. Original tool kit & user manual all old mot's that verify millage. Haynes manual. I have owned this great Honda classic since it came out of dry warm storage. in 2022 this bike will be road tax & Mot exempt (40 years old) Not many of these classic Hondas are still on the road those that are not in as good condition. I would consider exchange or px for a very good condition Royal Enfield EFI no offers £2,495
  2. Hi Ian if I have to spend time fitting a new battery and putting it through my work shed I would ask £1.500 Sold as is £13.50 but I will start it with a spare battery on the day its collected.
  3. Due to health reasons this bike was sorned 2 years ago. You might remember the restoration I did 5 years ago I only managed to ride it for 1000 miles. work done was new swinging arm bushes all new cables chain & sprockets . I also fitted CBX550 bars for a more relaxed ride. when it was laid up I did drain the carb so she should fire up. Millage is 52,000 any more info please feel free to ask I am open to sensible offers but not silly ones if interested please PM These photos were taken today.
  4. Back in May I found this sad looking 1988 Honda XBR 500 in need a new home. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/SAM_0068_zps90480ee3.jpg It had a flat rear tyre and had not run for about 3 years the previous owner had passed away and his widow was very reluctant to let it go. I assured her that it would be very well looked after and I also would bring it back and let her see it when it was back on the road. All that was needed was new chain & sprockets, swinging arm bushes, air filter, oil change, oil filter, inner tube for rear tyre & new spark plug. The engine is fine and runs very sweet & sounds great. She clean up very well and rides on rails. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/Honda%20XBR500%20Project/SAM_2603_zpscabdd380.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/Honda%20XBR500%20Project/SAM_2604_zps28406d25.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/Honda%20XBR500%20Project/SAM_2710_zpseb05b305.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/Honda%20XBR500%20Project/SAM_2714_zpsa6b0b19b.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/Honda%20XBR500%20Project/SAM_2713_zps2d9f7f6b.jpg Last week I took the bike back to show the previous owners widow the resurrected XBR. She was over the moon to see the bike back on the road and being put to good use. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/SAM_2891_zpsc0691618.jpg
  5. Just a quick update on the 1988 XBR500 I went down at 6pm with the balance of cash I also took my small compressor as the rear tyre was flat. I also thought maybe I should try and see if she will run so I also took a gallon of fuel. A few gentle kicks with the ignition off to get the oil moving then I went for it. First three kicks naff all then the forth kick a little splutter then on the 5th she jump in to life. So I drove back home to get the wife so as she could give me a life back with my helmet. By 8pm the bike was in my work shop I removed the battery & it is now on charge. It was only a mile to Lonely HQ but it was good to be on board a single again she sounded nice. I'm looking forward to sorting her out & I feel that it was fate that I received the phone call just over a week ago.
  6. Thanks for the quick reply its all there the side panels are on the window ledge I think someone had charged the battery as all the electrics are working ok. I did not risk pushing the starting button but I did kick it over very slowly. No sign of any rust on the frame.
  7. I have not posted on the forum for awhile not since my older brother Dave (Lonely Old Dave) or better know on the forum as "The Grand Master of Old Gits" past away in August 2012. He loved his motorbikes ever since he past his test in April 1961 having BSA's Triumph's, Norton's back in the 1960's then Honda's ect his last bike was a Kawasaki W800. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/scan0011_zpsd6728546.jpg I had a phone call last week from a widow who lost her partner 3 years ago asking if I would be interested in her late husbands Honda XBR500. I asked how she knew that I was looking for one & she replied that she phoned the local bike shop offering it to them but due to its age & condition they would pass, but told her that they knew an old bloke that wanted one to restore. I arranged to view it the next evening I made an offer but had to up it to £600 as she thought £500 was a little low. I had to explain that I was buying a non runner with a flat rear tyre with 50,000 miles on the clock. Normally I would walk away, but she was still grieving her late hubby and would miss not seeing his bike in the shed in the same spot the last time he rode it 3 years ago. I will be collecting it next week. She did mention that it had an oil leak but did not know from where. There was no oil on the shed floor. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/SAM_0068_zps90480ee3.jpg Any help or advice on what to look out for when I start the rebuild.
  8. "What Rain" Not a cloud in the sky all day for my brother David's Memorial ride in Wales his favorite place to visit & mine. I left Lonely HQ at 7am so as to be nice and early arriving in Abergavenny Bus Station for my bacon butty. I arrived at 8-30 am after a very Lonely ride avoiding the motorway except for the old Severn Bridge. At about 8-45 a pair of very large vans arrived with a load of H D for Test Rides. While eating my bacon butty just after 9am the rest of the Lonely Ones arrived Tom,the 2 Tim's Plus a pillion Tim no 2 son and friend Kevin had also tagged along from Stroud. Griff had stayed in a B&B in Newport and was nice and early. When everyone had eaten we set off at about 10-15am We met up with Derek who had come up from Swansea on his Royal Enfield Army Bullet at Llandovery. A total of 7 bikes set off on some of the best biking roads anywhere in the UK with very little car traffic at all. We stopped for lunch at Sennybridge MOD training area a very nice picnic spot. On the return journey about 15 miles from Abergavenny we stopped for tea & Welsh Cakes. We arrived back at Abergavenny about 4pm after about 110 miles round trip. Thanks to all who came on this ride in memory of Dave who last year travelled the exact same route on the 20th May. I'll let the photos tell the rest of the story . http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/20130519_132535_zps9a3d6bb6.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/SAM_1263_zps53c6f796.jpg A very strange thing happen at Abergavenny bus station while I was taking a few photos of the Harleys the battery just died I carry a spare and that did the same thing, I charged them both the week before the ride. (sorry Dave I promiss not to photo them ever again) So thanks to Tom who came to the rescue with his 8 meg phone camera.
  9. Hi all here is a link to the Memorial Ride for my late brother Lonely Dave. http://thelonelyones.forumcircle.com/vi ... php?t=1401
  10. Thanks for all the nice replys there will be six of us going on the ride on Sunday 19th May. I will post photos here in the near future.
  11. Lonely Old Dave better know on this forum as the "Grand Master of Old Gits" Sadly lost his battle with Cancer on 12th July 2012 aged just 67 He was a member on here since July 2007 and enjoyed the banter very much. His last post was late December 2011 to wish one & all a Merry Xmas. Being my older brother by 5 years he was my inspiration to ride motorbikes. We rode together getting on 20 years be it a Classic bike meet, watching Superbikes tearing arround Malory Park or just a bimble in Wales his favourite place to ride The last time we rode together was May 20th 2012 and he had a great day out with a few of his good friends that we met over the years. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/Llandovery%2020th%20May%202012/SAM_0511.jpg Dave is Standing next to Tim & Tom with yours truly behind the camera. On Sunday 19th May 2013 we are having a memorial ride in Wales. Meeting at Abergavenny Bus Station at approx 9am for tea & a bacon butty Leaving there at about 10am and heading for Llandovery for a short stop to see fellow bikers enjoying them selves. from there we will be heading up the valleys towards Garth. We will stop for lunch in a very nice picknic area that has toilets. Then head for Builth Wells, then back to Abergavenny. If you would like to join us you will be made most welcome. Daves last bike was a Kawasaki W800 and he loved that bike very much. I will be riding my W650 as that is what I rode with him last year. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/Elan%20Valley%20Oct%202nd%202011/PA020002.jpg It will not be a fast ride staying within the legal limits where possible I look forward to hearing from soon if you would like to join us.
  12. Yes Dave did have a habit of using large print and having the caps lock on. He is greatly missed by his family and his motorcycle friends. Being the younger brother I always looked up to him for inspiration. Here I am aged about 11 years old dreaming of being just like Dave. I had to wait another five years before I followed in his wake. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/img498.jpg This was Daves 2nd bike he passed his test in 1961 on a D1 Bantam The one i'm sat on is a BSA 350cc B31 (Dave had it look like a Gold Star) Happy memories. Thats our sister Carol looking out the window.
  13. I gave up smoking in 1975 after being a 30 a day man. I gave up because I could no longer afford the 30 pence a packet of 20 Players no6 as I had a morgage of £8,000 Sadly my brother Dave (Lonely Old Dave) a member on here for many years lost his short battle with lung cancer in July 2012. He gave them up about 20 years ago but the damage was already done. He loved riding his bikes if you smoke think long and hard when you light the next one. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/loneleybob/Last%20rideout%20of%202011/PB130009.jpg
