Important! Please read before posting!!
by rennie » Thu Aug 26, 2010 9:19 pm
Please remember that diagnosis, over the internet is difficult!
You need to give as much information as possible, in clear language,
with pics if possible. Please include the make and model of the bike
Also please remember that people are giving you their time and experience for free!
If you don't get the answer you want it's either because we don't know or because you haven't explained the problem properly
Now for the other side!
If a person asks a question, they want a...

Have I wrecked my transmission?
by Lewisb4hunt » Wed Apr 18, 2018 9:27 pm
Hi. Ended the weekend by popping some wheelies (off road) on my wr250x. The clutch engaged then suddenly it was like it had slipped into neutral, even though the neutral light wasn't on. I tried to get the bike moving in any gear and got nothing but revs. It would crawl about 2mph in 1st. I have just changed the clutch plates thinking it would solve the problems. Started the bike fine, no strange noises and still nothing even with clutch fully engaged. Anyone have this happen before? If so,...

Help!
by Philmorgs » Sat Apr 21, 2018 7:59 pm
I have a suzuki Sv650S 57plate 29k
Started to notice a small rattle from the front between 2-4K revs mostly on engine breaking. I’ve also noticed when checking oil the bike ticks on the side stand from the front end. As soon as I stand it up it stops ticking.
The exhaust seems to tick abit but goes if I put my finger over it? Don’t think it’s related maybe a leak.
Should I be worried?
Oil and filter change about 300miles ago.

'98 Bandit 600 Rear Shock absorber
by Lumor_uk » Tue Apr 17, 2018 2:26 pm
Started getting spongy and has now been flagged as slightly weak on the MOT, in fact I think it's completely gone and is just riding on the spring. I don't know if I'm searching wrong but I can't seem to find the seal kits anywhere .
I've found a video on you tube and I've done the front suspension on my car (although it was a straight swap of the shock part rather than strip down) and wanted to give this a go :thumb:

1994 cbr 600 swing arm swap with 1995
by Vladthetodge » Wed Apr 18, 2018 6:16 pm
Hello all.
I'm changing bearings in my shock links. Decided while I'm there with everything out of do the swing arm bearings too. Now my 1994 swing arm has seen better days so want to replace it. Hens teeth finding one lol! The 1995 ones are easier to find and cheaper.
So..... question is, after looking on t'interwebs and finding nothing......are they the same arm?
Looks identical..... All info I can gleem says the only difference between the two years bikes was engine. Not chassis or suss...

2nd- When pulling off in first, the accelleation is really sluggish, then seems to kick in all of a sudden, and once ive been going ten minutes or so its fine, only happens in first, anyone know why.

Brake Issues - Bandit 1250
by funinacup » Sun Mar 25, 2018 12:26 pm
Hey folks, looking for a bit of advice on what might be causing this issue.
I recently stripped and rebuilt my front (tokico) 4 pot calipers with new seals. In trying to remove the pistons (lots were stuck!) I managed to get a few teeth marks on the top edge of the piston from pulling them out with grips. I polished and Sanded the marks with wet and dry and got rid of any sharp bits that could tear the seals.
Refitted them on the bike and bled the system. The lever builds pressure (but...

Hi, pics here
Anyone know how to remove the adaptor? I need to switch out the bolt in the red circle of the firts image - the thread has gone.
Above the red circle you see the black circular button. It seems to be the only thing holding the adapton on - but I can't undo it.

So, entry for knob of the day for me today.
Needed to adjust my heated grip on my throttle side and I've managed to snap the plastic element on the handle bar, the bit you'd twist to intiate the throttle.
What is this plastic part called, please?
And any short term fixes whilst I get the part??

CG125 gear problems.
by LewisHoons » Wed Apr 11, 2018 9:37 pm
For some reason my motorbike only shifts in to third gear when doing either 15mph or 30mph and at 30 I have to roll off the throttle to get it to shift up. It’s only third gear doing this and it has done since I owned it. 3 month.
The bike also jumps when accelerating. Only a couple times a day in my 20mile journey. It isn’t a loose chain as I recently changed my chain and sprockets as a kit. Could the symptom be a slipping clutch?
Many thanks Lewis

Airbox tube snapped
by Philmorgs » Sun Apr 15, 2018 4:38 pm
2007 sv650, noticed some smoke coming out of rubber pipe attached to far left senser box on the air box, I then heard a pop and the check oil light and FI come on. Turned off engine started again and the same lights came on. Oil level fine, so checked pipe which had burst and then snapped explains the pop I guess. Currently struggling to find a relplacement pipe as I do not no the name of it. Any ideas? Hopefully a easy fix

YBR 125 cutting out while riding.
by Phill » Sat Apr 14, 2018 8:52 am
Hello there again.
Yesterday on the way home from work the bike developed an interesting symptom of cutting out(loss of power) on my bike like you would roll off the throttle all the way back while i was cruising with 55-60 and the engine light flashed rapidly three or four times in succesion(can't tell exactly) and the power came back, i reckon the power was out for 1 second or so, it happened later on the commute again but it was for a shorter duration like a bump, again at cruising speed,...

I had a quick ride out today and at one point it felt like I’d clipped a rock on the rear wheel, I was pretty sure I hadn’t so I stopped to check and everything seemed ok. Got home and had a better look and discovered the chain is ratting/slapping as shown in the video. The tension is fine sprockets and chain are ok, is it likely to be a transmission issue?
In neutral the wheel spins freely, if I put it into gear and pull the clutch the wheel has some firm resistance. I’m not sure if that’s...

Breakdown cover
by Rodders » Fri Apr 06, 2018 11:06 am
I'm heading to France for a few days soon. My bike is a 2002 Suzuki Bandit 600. I'm new to riding, and the bike is new to me and I've only done a few rides so far. During those rides I've had a few mechanical glitches, though I think I've had them sorted at a local workshop.
That said, I want some breakdown cover. At least for the single trip, perhaps for the year.
Who do you recommend and how much should I expect to pay?

How often do you change your oil?

How often does everyone change their oil?
Looking for a general census mine was supposedly done just before I bought it (GSX600F) but it never came with a manual and the manual I ordered has mysteriously not arrived off of Ebay.
So folks how often do you and is it an easy enough job ie do the filters get stick on like on cars? (I've had more hours fight those bloody things than I care to remember!)

Ignition tapped switch for USB charger
by Rodders » Tue Apr 03, 2018 12:08 pm
Yo
My bike has a retro-fitted USB charging socket near the clocks/bars. I didn't fit it, the previous owner did. Currently it's hard-wired into the battery so to switch it on/off I need to open my seat and fit the fuse into the holder (or remove it).
That's a faff, and I'd probably forget it and run my battery down. So, I thought it might be better to have it switched by the ignition switch. That way, it will only be powered and charging when the ignition is on.
Is that possible? Is that easy...

frame welding question
by BigHeavy1095 » Tue Mar 27, 2018 9:51 pm
Im about to start some mods/a mild rebuild on my YBR125 Fuel Injected model.. As part of this mild rebuild Im going to do a little cutting and welding to the frame. Nothing huge, Just a little welding.
Is there anything other than the battery I should remove, to prevent damage to the bike/its electrical system while welding?
I did google this but got mixed results, wondering if anybody on here has experience with welding frames and could give some advice.

by tomo9992 » Mon Mar 26, 2018 1:41 pm
Hey all,

Now briefly, I had the crank rebuilt by PJME some 4-5 years ago (bare in mind bike has done ZERO miles since this) as the conrod had movement in it. I also replaced the main bearings and ALL the crank case bearings and seals. Put the it all back together and DAMN, its knocking. It was a consistant knock that happened at the same point on...

Issues already marked off the list / fixed...
1) Ignition switch was faulty so took that off and had to clean the contacts as they were corroded to hell, tested afterward and working fine.
2) Bought a new instrument cluster and tested the old one, both do work fine after testing however there is a faulty...

Valve Stem Seal Replacement Without Removing Head
by leener » Mon Jan 15, 2018 5:09 pm
Guys, just after some verification about what I'm about to do... Next weekend, maybe... If it isn't raining. Just need to make sure I'm not about to dive in and mess it up.
I need to get it going, because I will be selling up and want this bike to be working properly for the next owner, so I have a fighting chance of getting a good price.
I have determined that the Triumph 955i (2003) has weeping stem seals, because the bike only spews up some blue smoke when warming up, but has no trouble...
