25 year old female from N. Ireland

#1 Post by Karrie994 » Thu Jul 11, 2019 11:22 pm

Hi, I have recently just joined :) .

As above I'm from northern Ireland and I'm 25. I have a keen interest in bikes, been traveling about with my dad for few years and now decided to take the plunge and get my bike license :).

I understand I have to complete my CBT and my theory test. Followed by a practical test.Due to the holidays at the month I won't be booking this until 15th July.

I have found a instructor, I was justing what does the CBT actually entail? Alsomwhat can I expect to be doing in my lessons?

I would greatly appreciate any information or guidance that may help me over the next few months :)

Thanks
[*]Karrie :)

Hello and welcome!
CBT is the complete basics of motorcycle riding and road craft. If by halfway through the day the instructor things you are doing well, you will go out on a road ride for a few hours or so. All going well, you'll get your certificate and can ride around on your own L plates!

Having a look at the various CBT training videos on YouTube helped me understand what was going to be going on during the day.

Heya and welcome to the forum. :D

As Rennie says, have a look about as we have lots of forum sections with loads of information about.

The way I always describe a CBT to people wanting to give biking a go, is that's is basically paying for an experience day, much like you buy a track day for a certain car.

You'll have a couple of sessions of learning some theory, general road sense and information about your kit and the vehicle.
Then you'll have practical sessions where you get to try out a small cc bike first in a controlled environment (in a car park, playground etc) before going out for a small road ride.

Hope you have a great time  Let us know how it goes.

Hey Karrie!

I'm a female rider from Durham. I did my CBT a few years ago and my A2 recently, so am new to bigger bikes. There is lots of helpful info online on the dvla for test info and test centre websites for training info. However, you have lots of little (or big) questions/ "silly" ones or just want advice feel free to pop me a message. As young females we tend to not have the social groups or rider friends to answer these questions, which is why it's great that we can hopefully find some of that online.

Good luck with all that is to come. I hope you love it as much as I do.

Hi there & welcome
Loads of knowledge on here, my tip is if you dismount say on the left before you do point the bars right then the bike will always fall towards the side you are standing :thumb:
If it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem
