Is anyone here prescribed Statins?

My dad used to take them. He stopped after having a major falling out with his doctor ( a whole other story!) and is looking and feeling much better. He's been off them for over a year now...

However I would say go talk to your doctor before simply coming off them. Everyone is different and there are many different varieties of statins. They may prescribe a different kind that you do not get these side effects from.

Fair point and thank you for that :thumb:

Just seems to be too much of a coincidence that I have felt great for the past 2.5 years since being discharged from Hospital, but as soon as I am put onto these Statins I start feeling like cr@p

If you experience any unexplained joint or muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness while taking statins, you should call your doctor immediately.

I just ache.

The only tenderness I experience is my nipples  but that I know is down to the Lacartin.

You should be asking your doctor. I for one am not qualified to answer your question

Are you on Statins then?

Doctor is about as much use as a chocolate fire guard (asked me how I knew I had had a heart attack and how did I know I suffered from heart failure  ) and I was simply asking if there was anyone who was also prescribed this drug who had had similar experiences.

I wasn't seeking qualified expert medical advice

Just as well then really :D :D

Have you tried seeing a different doctor, there are a few good ones out there.

Not at my local surgery, I have very little faith or confidence in them.

One Doctor told me over the phone that I was paranoid when I asked them to come and see my daughter who was very ill.

His diagnosis over the phone was that she was just off colour despite not having seen her and she would be right as rain the following day. She had meningitis (both viral and bacterial) and to this day I remain thankfull that I got her into the car and down to the Hospital.

2nd Doctor diagnosed my father in law with a muscle strain sent him home and told him to take a couple of asprin. 24 hours later he was admitted to Hospital and the muscle strain was diagnosed as terminal lung cancer

Doctor even asked me to tell her about the symptoms for heart failure as she didn't know.

And there have been other issues, so no, I don't have much confidence. I am due at the cardio unit quite soon so I will probably ask them who I do have 100% confidence in, but I asked here simply because I was interested to know if others had experienced similar issues and what they had done if that was the case.

I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience with the NHS. I can only speak of personal experience which to date has all been positive.

In Hospital and in the Cardiac unit in particular, I have nothing but praise and admiration.

In all the years I have been going in and out of A & E with work, they have been superb, even when I had to go in with this, which what warfarin does when you get a bruise (and sorry for the horrible sight  This was caused by slipping down 2 steps 18 months ago and I still have bruising) they were brilliant.

It is at GP level I have the problem

By the way, this bruise eventually over the next couple of days extended down to just above the back of my right knee, across my thigh and up to my waist and then across to my left thigh. All because I slipped on a wet step at a Restaurant and slipped down two steps.

I'm on simvastatin, have been for about 10 years without any problems. They are to help my kidney disease IGA nephritis, which is a gradual blocking up of the kidneys.

My Dad was put on a statin for cholesterol and suffered similar symptoms to you, he stopped taking them after a couple of days.

That really makes things as clear as mud

I just got my new prescription for my other meds today and the statins was not included (they forgot to do them as they are a new presecription) and so I have decided that I will finish off the current 5 remaining tablets but I am not going to get replacements.

The meds that keep me alive work perfectly well :thumb:

Never trust anyone with the word "general" in their job title..

? :?:

GP - General Practitioner.. not a Specialist or an expert or anything reassuring like that, just General..

Ah, got you :thumb: About right though

What about an actual general?

So TC, does your disdain for people who are the first line/triage also extend to the emergency services?

I suspect not, as they haven’t frittered away ten years on a medical degree and GP training. Stupid experts, what do they know?
