Not giving priority fine

Anyone ever heard of these?

Brother got one from Lambeth council. Where you have the road narrowing areas (E.g. Give way to oncoming vehicles etc...) approached one just before vehicle coming the other way, which did have priority, but flashed and gave way to him and no issues. Then gets a fine through for not letting a vehicle have priority.

Unfortunately was a work vehicle and they have just paid fine and docked wages so unable to contest.

This just screams money making to me, there are plenty of times when a vehicle with right of way gives way to someone else, are you expected to stay sitting there in case you get a fine?

What next? Cameras on street corners giving you a fine for not waiting for a bigger gap?

I have these close to my house and ride through them most days.. I have been flashed at more than once and just shook my head - no. and then waved at the driver as he came through as a thanks (but no thanks)

my reason for refusal isnt because of a camera.. there aren't any. just that if something went wrong. I would be in the wrong.

I wouldn't have thought the council could fine you for this? although thinking about it its only like fining people for driving in bus lanes!

Although for this I would be tempted to check his works contract and if there is nothing in there about driving offences being paid out of his wages I would be contesting that as its an unlawful deduction of wages!

My view is bus lanes is a pretty straight forward offence, if it's operational you don't drive in it, you can't say that a bus let you drive in it.

Vehicle priority however can be given up, traffic calming instruction is "give way" to oncoming vehicles so by definition is same as any junction. Excluding the safety aspect of should you or shouldn't you, if a vehicle let's you out of a junction and you went you wouldn't expect a fine to come through.

I'll get him to check.

It's true that the sign is obligatory, and failure to observe it is an offence that can result in a PCN. But to prove that the driver failured to observe the sign, the prosecutor would need to provide evidence that the other vehicle had had to alter its course or speed as a result of the course taken by the OP's brother's vehicle. I can imagine it's possible to provide camera evidence that the other vehicle had slowed down or perhaps even stopoed. But it's going to be hard to prove that they hadn't stopped out of courtesy, or for some other reason. Yet in these cases, no infraction of the sign has taken place.

Whoa! This is a new one on me. We have a lot of them in my town, but I’ve never seen them with cameras. I will be a lot more vigilant when in cities from now on and think I will take up Gerontious advice of never doing anything other than what the sign tells me to do.

Worst thing that they ever did was give councils traffic enforcement powers, they just do everything through cctv and no thought process when issuing tickets.

Exactly, because the bods concerned are more interested in revenue creation than road safety.

They’ve recently installed them outside a primary school near me and I really couldn’t believe it. When you consider that pollution levels outside schools should be kept to a minimum to prevent breathing problems and other long term health issues why the hell would you do that outside a school? It’s irresponsible. The councils should be doing everything they can to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. Morons.

If they had installed them outside my primary school in the 1960s I probably wouldn't have been knocked down by a car .

If you had paid attention to the green cross code or looked we're you was going you would not been knocked down .

One my best friends was knocked down (more thrown in the air about 20ft) right in front of me .due to wanting to get to the chippy before us run down off the footbridge and right across the road right on to the path of a 6th former driving a Ford escort .speed bumps would not have stopped him from getting hit ..

Also he was killed about 6 years ago riding a bike hit a pot hole throw him in to path of a.lorry and it went over him dragged him under the lorry and about 20ft till it stopped he was killed out right but scraped along the road it was like a long red skid mark..

exactly.

Not quite as you speed up between bumps so unless you walking across the bump then it don't work as iv seen ppl race between bumps to see how fast the can do and slow down (my sister house there outside her front door when they do just that )

How about an ambulance with a dying person on board has to slow down every 30 40 yards how long does that add to then time to the hospital .. fire engine to.a house fire while you are trapped in the fire .sorry we could on go 10 miles hour stoped bumps you see opps you been over come by smoke your dead.. police car your been attack by SCUM on scooters your bike been nicked you been stabbed sorry we would have been here 10 20 mins ago.. and caught the SCUM and saved your bike and you would have been saved by the ambulance but now your dead from stab wound ... speed bumps are worth it

NOT ..

.... speed camera will save more lives. As they cops fire engine ambulance would be exempt from camera photos .... only ones would be the ones who speed . ALSO SAVING LIVES ..

The Green Cross Code was not introduced until 1970 . Up until then we had the Tufty Club which was quite incomprehensible to a five year old with Asperger's syndrome .

@fastbob just had a look at the Tufty club- only a very special kind of special could get that load of nonsense.

Scroll down to the comments at the bottom of the page in green- it definitely appealed to a very specific sector of society

We have a few of those 'chicane' speed restrictors around here, however, they have a 'cycle lane' built through them next to the path - Bike fits perfectly! NB. There are NO signs advising pedal cycles only, cycles only, horses only, etc. therefore I am 100% certain that, as long as I do not cause any other road user to stop, swerve, slow down, etc. I will not be 'done' for any offence if 'caught' using this throughway.

Ooh harsh! Primary school children can’t be expected to have good road sense! I’m in no way blaming this on a lack of adult supervision because you can think a child’s fine and suddenly they do something out of the blue but I had to physically get hold of one of my sons every time we were anywhere near a road or in a car park for years and years and years. Even now he’s in double digits we’re all still looking to see if he’s paying attention ready with a shout or grab to stop the distracted so n so stepping out!!

He’s not on his own, I know many other parents with the same problem. Children are often oblivious, caught up in their own world and even if they’re not many are very easily distracted.
