F... Open plan!

Ok I've not been in work for a bit  but lost my office today :crybaby:

Not because of being off but moving into a new building and all open plan

Whoever came up with the idea of open plan offices needs to be shot. Already feedback from others it is as terrible as expected, no atmosphere whatsoever and everyone scared of talking because when they do some random person from other side of office suddenly joins in.

Really hoping I win lottery before I'm fixed!

Ahhhh introverts have bumped into the phenomenon called "socialising"

I'm in an open plan office, but as there's always a light background noise of chatter, the departments only really talk amongst themselves. If you're all quiet, it makes certain types uneasy so they interrupt chats to ease their stress while raising yours. You need to get past the pain barrier and have little groups chatting on/off throughout the day.

We had open plan when I worked in London many years ago and we had fewer work stations than staff to force use to be out at clients earning chargeable hours. If one didn’t get in by 7:00am you didn’t have anywhere to work. Fortunately I spent most of the time abroad and lived not far from the office on the rare times I was in London.

I've always worked in open plan offices. No other way for teams to work unless you want to waste time emailing each other. And the banter is good to pass the day.

Couldn't imagine going to to work and being stuck in a office on my own.

you should try being in the whole factory on your own!

I could quite easily do a 12 hour shift without speaking to anyone at all

I try.

But I keep being informed I am supposed to talk to my team

It's not the working with the team that's a problem, it's all the other random people who just happen to work at same place but nothing to do with my team.

Only good thing is work we do is pretty sensitive so it's on a restricted floor and won't be totally random people walking in as it is officially hot desking as well
