When you come home and have to walk 300m in the pissing rain/ sleet/ snow from your house...

The street I live in was never to bad for parking it has not got beyond the joke...

We live in an X council house with private neighbours either side, the problem is beyond that one house has:

1) Works Van (Large),

2) Smaller Works Van,

3) Private car 1

4) Private car 2

5) Random Car (girlfriend of family we think)

Other side we have:

Then the other family

Private car: 1, 2, & 3 have recently removed untaxed un MOT'd car from the street. Plus car one & 2's additional friends.

I never minded the couple who:

1) Store there motorhome in the carpark,

2) Other car one is used maybe once a month,

3) Private car

The other 2 families have managed to destroy any sensible parking for about 12 houses

Then there is the lady who is driving round a car that is untaxed un MOT'd and we believe un insured.

Tonight I have finished a hard 11 hour shift, now at home wet and cold as I have to park at the end of the road and walk down in sleet now hail outburst...

Some of the parking from these guys us appalling, blocking access to garages (well enough to stop me getting my bike out before today), blocking access to the flats parking opposite. I frequently have to move my car when off shift to ensure I can get to work. There are 2 other shift workers in a similar situation always looking over our shoulder to ensure we can get to work.

Having had our cars hit twice I reported the matter to the police, when I mentioned the problems with unsocial parking, they said there was nothing they could do (the lady on the phone still gave me down the banks when I said if that's the case my parking will become more selfish than theirs). Incredibly they are unable to do anything about cars left at the side of the road untaxed or uninsured they have to catch them being driven!

Anyway bitch over end of shift the calming warming whiskey is starting to have its effect.

The DVLA have more powers than the police when it comes to untaxed, uninsured vehicles, they can and will clamp them, and if nothing done within a fixed time will remove them, make a note of all offending reg numbers and go online and report them

I'm sorry that sounds really shite.

Jays family has a similar problem in their close and one house is being converted at the moment to be a multiple occupancy for up to 7 people.

At our last house even it was getting horrible by the time we moved, my car has dents and scratches all over it from people regularly opening their doors into it.

If that was me I'd buy a few clamps and clamp the thats or buy some ground anchors and chains and chain they're cars to the road or a wall

When I 1st moved in to my house there was no cars in the street at all( small avenue number 4 to 9 ) so we moved in that was 2 cars in the street.. our street is one sidded the oppsit side is ends of two gardens in between them is 5 council garages which had cars but not belonging to anyone in our street. Also hard stand in front of the garages . So 20 years forward the

end house

no4 .has 3 cars

no5. has 1 van 1 car and a car on the drive (in bits)

no6. has 1 car. garage but to small to fit car in

No7. (me) 1car 2 bikes garage space for 3 cars .

Update

No8. 2 caravans 1 BMW X5 on drive way. 1 large VW hightop van. 2 transit vans .1 range rover .3 MPVs. 4 cars .1 soft top . 2 escort vans . A garage with 3 rally cars in it

3 more cars

1 motorhime

1 4x4 Suzuki

1 kids quad ..

No9. garage space 2 cars but no cars .

ALL the cars apart from no7 (me) park in the street that has 6 houses YOU THINK you have a problem parking . If I want to park outside my house I have to reverse up no8s drop kurb an on to my garaden .as there is no empty space on the road .

Understand your pain.

Our first house was in a narrow street of terraced houses, when we first moved in in 1985 parking wasn't so bad but as time progressed all the old people without cars moved on replaced by younger car driving residents. On a Friday night if I wasn't home by 5pm you couldn't park outside the house and if you did manage to get a space close by didn't want to go out even for 5 mins as you just knew it would be gone.

When we decided to move ,high up on the list of must haves was a driveway and garage.Where we are has enough parking on the drive for 4 cars and we live opposite a tee junction so no houses opposite to clog the road. And the garage is in the back garden so I can work on the bikes and cars in total privacy.

Feel your pain, we live mid terrace, few of the houses do have drives though. Next door, however, had a drive and three cars, two park on there and the third, even though it would fir, parks in front pf ours. Its been really bad on our street last couple of weeks, having to park round the corner as no where to park, i.work nights and get back about 10 mins after next door as well which annoys me lol

Nornally id be going on my bike and my space would be safe but sodding puncture haha

Cant wait to get a house with a garage

I feel your pain. My street is nowhere near as bad, we have one car which goes on our drive and one bike that goes in the garage so we can always get parked just fine. Guests however usually have to go in another street. I normally have a large van outside my front window so I have recently planted some now bigger trees to block it out. It's parked perfectly legally but it's not really what you want to look out of your front window to see.

Ahhhh the benefits of rural living!

Have lived in an area where it’s permit parking in the day but evenings were a nightmare. Terraced road in a student area where each house has multiple cars. Throw into that a pub opposite with no car park....

Starting to think of finding local social media page to post up, the view that if works vans are being parked/ driven badly would you use that company. I take the view if they are that much in a rush to get where every they are going that no one else matters but them how do they treat there customers...

PS anth_85 than van is small and doesn't have the days rubbish hanging out of the back of it, as a neighbour said all that would need is one carelessly discarded cigarette. He then complimented me on giving up smoking  .

There are few restrictions on vans parking in residential areas ( other than what applies to cars in general) except that anything over 2500kg must display lights when parked on the highway. If it weighs over that and is parked without lights you've got something to work with.

:thumb: ill have a nosey when I'm next out the front. I really don't want to be the parking police neighbour of the street, I just wish people were more considerate.

Ever since a pair of scrotes tried to nick my 500, busting the ignition barrel out to expose the wires ( I heard the disc lock slide round on the brake disc, so caught them in the act), I fitted a cctv system up, and the camera covers only the area the bike sits in as it's parked on a public thoroughfare, albeit right out side my house. a couple of my neighbours are good, and leave me the space, but I have a couple of houses near me with more then one vehicle, and I get home from work to find I cannot park outside. I even have a notice in the front window warning about the camera, so they know why I need to be directly outside the house, but choose to ignore it

Years ago, i lived in a dead end terraced street, and i always managed to park outside, often when i came home cars were parked outside my door, not for long though, soon shunted them out of the way, i was really peed off one time, i pushed a car to the other side of the road onto double yellow lines, never saw that car again

Just call the van company and ask them are they paying tax on then van as any company that allows staff to take Van's cars home must pay tax on it as then becomes a company car/van . As my old works would not allow the large van to be take home the smaller ones was allowed but the drivers had to pay the Tax .. .

Easy to solve, buy a small cheap car and wait till van moves and park it up in its place, it will cost you tax, insurance and an mot, I said it was easy I didn't say cheap
