Cricket world cup.

First of all, it was great to see the England cricket team win the ultimate prize in the sport. The one thing that I found not only strange but also annoying, was the cacophony of noise generated by the event organisers (not the supporters) between overs. It gave the impression of being in a fair ground rather than a cricket ground. Anyone else feel the same about this? Or is it just me being biased because I prefer to watch county and test cricket.

Yes I think it's fair to say its a totally different game to test cricket. I think the idea was to attract people who were not traditional test match fans

I think the final certainly achieved that, every one will want to play cricket for at least 2 weeks now 😁

Didn't even realise there was a tournament on... Pretty crap at keeping up with sports!

Apparently some tennis thing is happening too.. Or happened? Not sure. /s

Well done to all those doing well at their sports and commiserations to those who didn't do so well.

Also been hearing more about womens football lately, so guess that must be more of a thing at the moment?

Good to hear about and all the best to the players. :thumb:

On radio this morning about the Tennis at Wimbledon, women now get the same prize money as men, good fare enough you say , but ... they play 2 sets less  Martina Navaratiliva was saying .. same pay, same length of game, and to right , if you want to be equal it works all ways ladies ... just sayin.

I agree, equal pay for equal time, will be interesting to see how the sport changes in the years ahead to support this.

A recent YouGov poll came back with only 19% of the nation thinking women should play less sets, 47% said they should play equal sets; whether that's both playing 3 or both playing 5.

Equally womens football, especially in the USA where womens "soccer" is quickly becoming more popular than mens "Soccer", still needs to be dragged up to date.

Not really relevant to your point but only last year the the Women’s World Champions got pumped 5-2 by Dallas United’s U-15 side.

The last time cricket was that interesting, Ian Botham was playing.

The golden era of cricket as far as I'm concerned. In later years, Mrs Smithers threatened divorce many times when the test matches were on TV in the lounge and TMS was on the radio in the kitchen so as not to miss anything. When you heard Brian Johnson and Richie Benaud together on TMS you knew summer was here.
