XTreme Posted June 21, 2016 Share Posted June 21, 2016 The background here is that the NATO military airforce training base in Albacete have been clients of mine for some years.And every year or so I go up there to visit the base.....more a PR thing than anything else really.Last time I went was in late July and the heat was brutal. But we've had very mild temps so far......around 32 max was forecast today!However at 7AM it was bloody nobbling.......didn't realise till I got moving so I just had to tough it out.First stop after 80 miles was the service area joining the Murcia - Albacete motorway! My teeth (what few I have left) were chattering by then! http://www.motorcyclesport.net/ban/ban171.jpgThen onto the motorway heading north crossing into the province of Castilla La Mancha.After about 70 miles I reached Albacete! Notice the plane sign on the roundabout!http://www.motorcyclesport.net/ban/ban172.jpgParked up outside the grounds.......http://www.motorcyclesport.net/ban/ban173.jpg...and from that point on I couldn't take any pics near the Base. Unless I wanted to get banged up!Showed Security my passport.....it matched the records that they have of me......so they instructed me to ride the bike into the base.As I went through the gates all the Spanish guards saluted me! WTF?Did they think that with me being old and having short white hair I was some sort of top brass Wing Commander? I know Britain has cut back on Military spending, but if they're sending their big noises out on bloody Bandits.....we're seriously f**ked!I was in there for a few hours.....all Top Secret shit of course! On the way out as I passed through the gates....they all saluted me again! No idea why! But I went along with it because they were all carrying guns!Anyway.....it was then back down the motorway.....weather warmed up nicely too. Stopped just outside Calasparra for a fresh orange juice!
