Snod Blatter
VSDC because it's free and quite full featured. Not the easiest software to learn to use though!
Tiggie
When I used to do a lot of encoding I used handbrake. Not exactly editing software though......I'll go sit in the corner and keep quiet

Tankbag
Openshot ( Linux but also ported for OS X & Windoze) It's intuitive to use with some great effects including a Star Wars scrolling intro
dynax
Windows Movie Maker was brilliant till Microsoft discontinued it, i have a running version on a desktop running XP but it's specs are so old it is only good for vidoes upto 480p anything larger and chokes itself, currently using Videopad from NCH paid version and got it really cheap in a bundle with Debut screen capture
