I've looked into counter steering and tested it. I understand we do it naturally to turn anyway but to put more turn on mid bend by turning the wrong way is not a nice feeling! Doing it whilst going straight is also strange just turn the handle bars slightly right and start veering left.

I hope this is a simple way to explain counter steering for anyone not sure.... but I might cock up my explanation:

Don't think about it that much. I find when I shift my body weight towards the inside of the corner to counter the bike wanting to fly the other way, it naturally puts more pressure on the bar.

We all have it built in, the difference is our confidence.

Just practise counter steering in a straight line when the space is available and its dry, that'll give you a good idea of how it should feel and how much (little) pressure you need to apply to the bar.

The problem with that Liam, is that won't give you a true indication of how much pressure you need going into a bend as it all depends on your speed. The faster you are travelling the more pressure you need to force the front wheel off its axis.the faster you are going the more the front wheel wants to stay upright. It will take a lot more pressure to tip the bike in at 70mph than at 20mph.

Your brain will automatically work all this out for you. It just takes practice and some retraining of your brain to be able to consciously counter steer.
