Bikes are golden for getting in to the hospital near me. Been in and out the last few days and the ability to nip round the dodderers and park fairly near the entrance saved me a load of headache.

Plus it avoids the £2.20/hr parking charges for 9 hours/day. :-)
They charge you to park in hospitals now Fro?
They have charged for a long time in the UK. We spent a fortune when my mum was going through Chemo.
Shit! That's f**k criminal........charging people in situations like that!

We're going off topic but my sister works for the NHS and has to pay to park in the staff car park and it's a 20 minute walk from the hospital unless she wants to pay a much higher price and park in the main hospital car park.

Just got back in, only saw one bike on the way home, coming the other way looking like the spaceship of Close Encounters. Otherwise I had the roads to myself.

Apart from the badgers, foxes and fluffy bunnies of course.

Mother-in-law still does a bit of nursing and she has to pay to park. Also, at Bury St Eds, all staff must either find alternative transport or park elsewhere 1 week out of 3 (or something like that) on a rota system so all the back roads round and about are clogged with hospital staff cars.

But yeah, charging for parking is ridiculous. You're not going there to mince about and have a coffee after all and my arse are the fees ploughed back in to critical staff and facilities.

[/grumble, grumble etc]

When I was visiting Chesterfield Hospital last year I went on the bike nearly every time. Free premium parking with camera coverage and near the building entrance.

Even the barriers on the car parks are short so you can ride on through :thumb:

Our local hospital has free bike parking but it is inside the area controlled by pay barriers. Apparently you're meant to ask a security guard to let you out.

I leave mine by the bus stop chained to a lamp post.

I don't mind paying for hospital parking. The NHS really, really needs the money. I'm actually sitting in fracture clinic right now.

You're right there matey! Shame it's all wasted on all the leaches that suck the NHS dry and bugger all makes it to the wards.

The NHS will be lucky if they see as much as 5% of the money go to where it should taken from the parking charges, the fat cats get fatter every day

To bring this thread back on track, I don't commute but I do ride all year round so long as it's not snowing. There are usually plenty of fine days albeit sometimes cold through winter to ride.

Walsgrave Hospital Coventry , and this is from 2016 ! Bloody criminal .
I was unfortunate enough to spend a month in Kings Hospital London a few years ago, parking for visitors was £2.00 an hour!

I commute year round in my bike. I do work for NHS, but I haven't received a parking permit even tough I live 14 miles away from work, and I have to do on calls, which means sometimes I leave work at midnight, which means no reliabe buses...they expect me to take the bus 2 hours one way, no discount, nothing. Not gonna happen.

And they will fine you when the parking managers say so. They will raid the staff carpark and nick people without permits or with expired permits. Shameful.

Rant over.
