James in Brum
Thinking as I rode along this morning and wondered; Is it bad for a bike to not use it's full potential? I probably spend by far the majority of my commute in the 3-7k RPM range and not pushing hard at all. I will occasionally when pulling away give it the beans but usually not. Does this do the engine/bike any harm? Should i ring its neck every now and again?
megawatt
It's good to Rev a two stroke engine occasionally to help keep it decoked, don't think it would harm a four stroke.
Stu
Yes you should ring its neck every now and then! Purely for the grin factor But no it won't hurt it
Mississippi Bullfrog
What is known as an Italian tune up.Motorcycle engines generally are much more robust than most people realise. A good hammering does them no harm so long as the engine is fully warmed up. What kills them is poor maintenance or being hammered from cold.
