What bikes have you owned over the years?

Hi all !

I was having a chat elsewhere and suggested maybe others might be interested.

I have owned loads so will work on a list if others want to know.

Trust me I have had Icons and Dogs and I am sure others will be the same lol.

Cheers

Ian

Depends what you mean by owned . Technically I've seemingly owned about 31 bikes but many of these have been " Fixeruppers " so I've only owned them for the purpose of selling them on again . So I would list my bikes in two categories , Main bikes and Others . MAIN BIKES : CB 175 , Triumph TR 25 w , GSX 250 , CB 125 Benley , GS 550 , GS850 , GSX 1100 , Z 1000 ST ( Customized ) GSXR 1100 L , GSXR 1100 WP , ER5 , Harley Davidson XL 1200 R . OTHER BIKES : CG 125 ( X 9 ) , CJ 250 U , FT 500 Ascot ( X2 ) 750 Zephyr , Z 750 , MZ TS 125 ( X2 ) CM 125 , CB 125 , CM 200 . Oddly enough I'm sure there are quite a few more but I just can't think of them right now .

I know I left some off my list lol.

Which did you love the most?

I know I was younger then but the Ducati bevels were great and if I owned them now I don't think I would sell !

Difficult to say because times have changed and so has my perception of things.

But the 70's were the Golden Era........everything after that period hasn't lived up to it in terms of experiences and enjoyment.

So I'd say the milestone bikes were my first new ones.....Suzuki GT380 in 1973, and the Kawasaki 500 Triple new in 1975.

We've done this before, several times over the years!

I'll see if I can do it at work next week

With all the cider you put away I'm surprised you can even remember the bike you've got now Ian!

Starting in 1964  :

BSA C11G (250cc OHV single with plunger rear suspension)

Norman 250 (Villiers 250cc 2-stroke twin)

Matchless G3LS (350 OHV single with swinging arm rear suspension)

Then, later .....

Kawasaki Z650

Kawasaki Gpz 750

Kawasaki GPZ900R A3

Kawasaki GPZ900R A5

Kawasaki ZZR1100 D1

Kawasaki GTR1000 (1989 model)

Suzuki GS500

Kawasaki GTR100 (1996 model)

Yamaha 600 Fazer (2001 model)

Yamaha FJR 1300A

Kawasaki Z750

BMW R1200RT SE (2007 model)

BMW R1200RT SE (2010 model)

BMW R1200RT SE (2013 model)

BMW R1200RT LE (2017 model) ..... Current. :D

Mostly, I've had one bike at a time, but the GS500, 600 Fazer and the Z750 were run alongside "touring" bikes. The 600 Fazer was absolutely brilliant - did everything, the GS500 and Z750 were just about acceptable as transport.

I've also bought a couple of bikes for my wife, which she hardly used, but I had some fun on :

MZ 125

Yamaha SR 125

Piaggio MP3 125

Bought my first bike in 1980. with a years savings from a Saturday milk round.

KH250B2 took me almost 40 years before I would own another japanese bike.

Triumph T160

Triumph T140TSS

Triumph Trident 750

Triumph Speed Triple 900

BMW R1100GS

BMW K1200GT

BMW F800S

And now a Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT.

9 bikes in 40 years... I tend to buy a bike based on a ton of research and then keep it for a long time. Longest was my GS. Bought in 1997 and I still have one now.

Ive never been particularly inspired by japanese bikes.. I really bought the KH to thumb my nose at my mates who all had Honda CBeebies, A two strke triple being rather different to those other tractors.

If time travel were a thing i would go back to 1994 and tell my former self... DONT SELL IT.

I had the TSS for 6yrs and was taken in by the bright and shiny new Hinckley machines. My biggest regret is parting with it. My dad took the entire bike apart and rebuilt it properly, fixing all the faults the bike had from the factory, it was sweet.

In reverse order of buying them and if anyone wants any information on any of these I did all my own maintenance on them so please let me know...

1993 ZXR750L1 (current bike, being restored)

2014 KTM 1190 Adventure (current bike, fantastic machine, hope it last as long as I do)

2003 CBR1100XX Blackbird (sold - bought as a commuter on the cheap which was a mistake as unreliable and needed lots of work, really uncomfortable and steered like a supertanker, improved quite a bit by raising the back, dropping the front and new springs all round, still didn't like it, sold it and bought the KTM Adventure)

2007 CBR-1000RR (current bike, best bike I've ever had)

2007 KTM 990 Superduke (sold - traded in for the CBR-1000RR, never got on with it)

2005 BMW 1190GS (sold - bought it after recovering, easy to ride but easily the worst bike I've had... totally unreliable, dreadful fuelling, slow)

1993 Yamaha TTR250 (sold - quite good fun but didn't use it much)

2004 Yamaha R1 (sold - loved it but had to sell when I fell ill with a year long bout of labyrinthitus which stopped me riding)

1986 KX500 (current bike, barely started project, never ridden it, bits of it all over the place)

1995 Triumph Trophy 900 (sold, ok bike, did the job of commuting ok)

1995 ish Ducati 748S in Gray (sold, lovely to look at but got rid of it as I'd always rather ride the blade)

2001 Fireblade RRY (sold - had this for ages, loved it to bits but became unreliable due to repeating electrical issues and looked terrible having commuted on it through winter for a few years)

1997 or 98 Kawasaki ZX6R (sold, ok bike but never liked the front end feel)

1995 (or thereabouts) Kawasaki GPZ1100E1 (sold, epic bike, wish I'd kept it)

...gets a bit vague here...

Yamaha Thundercat (sold, great bike, loved this)

ZXR750 H1 (sold, loved it but couldn't ride it, too inexperienced and too scared of it)

RD350YPVS (sold, good bike)

TZR 125 (sold, piece of crap, I didn't know any better, rarely worked)

Regards,

Mark

PS. Bikes I'd like to have at some point...

1998 Yamaha R1

1992 Honda Fireblade

1997 Suzuki TL1000S

Any green Kawasaki ZX7R
