Correct way to wear gloves

#1 Post by hamongnguyet » Sat Jan 12, 2019 3:55 pm

I know there are many obvious & sarcastic answers BUT.....

I have a pair a Gor-Tex gloves now they don’t say waterproof on the label but it was/is assumed, I wear the cuffs of my coat inside the big cuff of the gloves as to me that is common sense the rain carried by the wind at speed hits the glove & pushes it along the glove & up the jacket sleeve but when I was out in heavy rain last week they were not waterproof,

SO......

I asked at my local clothing shop where I brought them from to be told I was wearing them wrong.....he said it’s a common mistake I need to put the glove inside my jacket cuff as when you operate the throttle or the body movement in braking the rain on your arm is leaking down the glove cuff.

Now I know April fools has just gone but he could of just sold me another pair of gloves

Welcome to TMBF mate. .......... 8-)

Yes, normally wear the cuff of the gloves inside the sleeves of the jacket......wearing the cuff outside the sleeves means that water runs down the sleeves and straight into the gloves.....where it gets trapped.....
I feel the need....the need for Speed......Triple

My Rukka jacket has a double cuff to prevent water going down the gloves or up the sleeves. But my leather jackets have no such facility and I’ve tried gloves inside and outside of the jacket sleeves. Gloves inside the jacket sleeve does seem to work better.

This has been covered many times, it depends on your riding position, elbows up or elbows down. If you ride elbows up wear the gloves inside. If you ride elbows down wear the gloves outside. Gravity prevails.

It also depends on the glove. Some are designed to go outside the sleeve. They tend to be larger, like mitts and have some way of closing them round the sleeve, such as shown here;

I have always worn my gloves on top of my jacket. Mind you I have some cheap Frank Thomas winter gloves which are water resistant but not waterproof so in heavy rain water will go in. Same thing with the summer gloves, even tough they are Alpinestars leathers, which are designed to be worn on top of the jacket.

In the wet I wear my gloves under the jacket sleeve. I have tried wearing them over and my hands got soaked. So I reckon the bloke is telling you right.

Don't know how many of you wear waterproofs over your bike jacket .....

I wear my gloves over my bike jacket, but under my waterproofs. So, when it's not raining, I don't need to prevent water running down inside my gloves. When it is raining, water can't run down inside my gloves because my waterproofs are over the cuffs. Does everybody wear Goretex these days ? :D

On rain days I wear a waterproof under my bike jacket. Therefore the gloves end up between the two coats and that works smashingly.

I've recently started doing this and it's definitely better but water still gets in eventually. It is a right proper faff to tuck anything under the waterproofs though, especially if you then have to do up the sleeve ends while wearing honking great gloves!

I also wear these over my gloves in the wet or proper cold, tuck them in underneath the sleeves of the wetsuit. They're pretty good most of the time.

Of course I think the best course of action is to relocate to the desert..

Totally this in my experience.

The correct way is the way you feel comfortable with .

I used to wear my gloves inside my jacket but recently bought a pair of the exact IXS gloves which are pictured and the cuff tightens nicely around the jacket. I have ridden a couple of times in torrential and had lovely warm and dry hands afterwards

Brilliant gloves, I have had mine for a good few years now and they have never leaked, despite even heavy rain motorway journeys for hours on end.
