Textile trousers adjustments

Recommended Posts

I had a pair of Gore-tex trousers shortened recently by a guy that specialises in leather repair but also works on textiles. So if you can find a leather specialist local to you, give them a ring and ask. My bloke charged me £30.

Here’s a thought.....is the length to the knee the same no matter if it’s short, regular or long leg it’s just the length below the knee

For example....if I buy regular length trousers & have the leg shortened will the knee be in the same place ??

It depends on the brand in my experience. And since everyone is different, you may get away with just shorting the total leg length and the knees stay where they should. Other folk need them shortened between the knee and hip. Depending on the stlye, sometimes this is easier to do because it no zips etc.

Personally, I now just buy short length versions from the shop. Halvarssons/Lindstrands/Jofama do a large selection of sizes I have found.

I have about ten pairs of textile biking trousers and the knees are all in different places, mostly not where they should be. I've given up worrying about them because I bought a set of these:

Now it doesn't matter to me where the manufacturers put their knees.

Of course it will, unless you plan on unstitching the hip and shortening from there. Taking 2 inches off the bottom of the leg will make no difference to the knee.
