Side luggage, need advice please

Recommended Posts

Hey everone,

I need some advice on where to find side luggage rails and boxes for a Yamaha TDM850. I have found one place near me that does them for my bike but not keen on the boxes. If anyone can help me out or poi t me in the right direction i will be forever gratefull!

P.s it curently has a givi monorack with givi top box. The rail seems to come down the side of the bike (below the rear seat) but no signs where i could attach a side pannier to

GIVI do not list side panniers any more but they are available

See here

https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/207184

But note this from WEMOTO

Complete GIVI Monokey Rack Kit Yamaha TDM 850 (96 - 01)

Incompatible with tubular side case holder PLA336. If you are considering a possible three cases configuration buy PLA336 + PB02 (rear plate bridge kit).

Not looking good for a GIVI system. Quick check does not show many other options for your bike.

Ive seen that first link before and it always says ‘discontinued’

Im not looking for Givi inparticular. I brought the bike with a monorack on and a kappa top box. So all i need is side luggage racks.

I have found this set up:

https://www.sw-motech-shop.co.uk/evo-carrier-black-yamaha-tdm-850-91-01-

But im not to keen on the boxes.it says its compatable with other makes but not sure what ones.

I think i may have to change the top box rack as the monorack arms are going to get in the way of the side luggage rails. I feel like im having a melt down over this 😂

Yes I've seen these on a ZZR1400 and the guy has Givi luggage attached. Not sure if these fit with the Givi rack as well though.

Looking at the site check the following

https://www.sw-motech-shop.co.uk/allprods.php

https://www.sw-motech-shop.co.uk/adapter-kit-for-carrier-2-pcs-for-givikappa-monokey-cases-

So its £200 for the rack + £20 for the adapters +£*** for the paniers

It tells you in the description.

Adaptable to TRAX, AERO, Givi/Kappa, Krauser, Hepco & Becker and Shad cases by seperately available SW-MOTECH Side Carrier Adapter Kits

thats a fairly wide choice of manufacturers and each of them offer various styles. SW-Motech stuff is very good. it may turn out that the actual part you want isnt kept in stock here in the UK, but the UK importer will be able to order it for you, you can generally expect it to arrive in a couple of weeks. Of those its probably true that Givi/Kappa luggage will be the easiest to find used.. but if you want to buy new then any of them.. they all produce very good luggage.

Personally i wouldnt worry too much about the looks of panniers. just think about them in practical terms. as it will likely turn out that you only use the panniers occasionally. for example.. the panniers for my bike only get used once or twice a year. normally for trips abroad.. or occasionally when I need to use them to carry stuff here at home. (I don't have a car)

I saw that but wasnt sure what models within those brands would fit. I assumes any carrier from those brands will fit?!?

Im not worried if there a bit dented or grubby, my bikes 20years old.

Im going to be using them for when abroad and for weekends/hoildays round the UK.

That first link makes no sence to me at all 😂😂.

My brain doesnt bode well with this kinda stuff 😂. So i gotta get that evo rail, plus the adapters for kappa/givi monokey panniers and a kappa or givi box that supports monokey system

Basically yes.

If you open the first link then scroll down to

ADAPTORS

These are all the case adaptors that fit onto the EVO rails to enable you to fit various cases.

As Gerontious has listed the various cases. the costs for the adaptors vary so GIVI- KAPPA is £20 SHAD is £38. BUT different adaptors are required for alloy or steel.

I've use Givi as an example see list from Gerontious.

Looks like they should but to be 100% send them an email with all the details and ask for confirmation of the fitting kits.

It does look like you will have to remove the GIVI rack though unless the fitting points can be shared.

I have not used these items so I can not guarantee compatibility.
