Givi E22N panniers. Any good?

Recommended Posts

Hello team! Has anyone had any experience with these panniers i know there cheap BUT.... i cant warrant paying £500/600 on Ally ones which id ideally like as it would suit the XTX better and im only going to be using few times a year for a bit of touring and odd trip in the uk. Also there little 22litre ones which will cit a few pairs of socks and pants 😂

They are small.. designed really for cruisers. but fine if you're happy with that. one nice touch is they are interchangeable. so you can have them on either side of the bike and see which way round looks best. Givi is a good brand, there is a slightly cheaper version made under the Kappa brand in the same factory, But at this price point the difference is very slight. They do make a good basis though. for one-up trips, you could still fit a dry-bag and use the entire width. seat+panniers as a platform for a bigger bag. Keeping 'valuables' in the panniers where they are secure and other bits and pieces you might not have room for in the bag. like a pair of shoes for instance. Those extras that make the time when not riding less of a grind.

You'll need to test how waterproof they are. not the end of the world if they leak slightly... mine do and so everything goes in plastic bags. and then its not a problem.

probably the best thing about panniers of this size is you wont need to think about them when filtering as its highly likely they will be less wide overall than the mirrors. On your particular bike.. maybe the same width or a little under the width of the bars. which is ideal. And makes them far less prone to scrapes, so if at some future point you decide to go larger.. you will be able to get a bit more of your money back.

I would probably order them from somewhere like 'sportsbikeshop' that has a simple/no fuss returns policy. seeing them in the flesh is important, how they look on the bike and the reality of a 22L space. may be fine in theory, but the reality somewhat different.

Sounds like a good idea! Yeah i need to see them in the flesh really like you said so i know for certain. I dont want panniers too big as its only a small bike as it is.

Like i said i would like the aluminium ones but there so expensive and im not going to be using them that often 99% of the time its going to be noce summer weather so inthink cheap and cheerful is the way foward.

Is there any other designs a bit less cruiser style you know of? (Bit more rectangler) for roughly the same price!

i have been looking myself, but found nothing suitable, in the uk atleast, plenty from india, anyway, i only want some for occasional use so will be going the saddle bag route, throw over the seat clip on at the bottom all done, might have to go bespoke made though, but similar could be done with solid cases with a strong strap over the seat,

given some thought to this, if you know anyone who has a sewing machine, you could make a harness out of 50mm webbing, create an open pocket for the cases to sit in, one each side, with the webbing stitched to the pockets to go over the seat, then just need a short strap to tie each case to the bike, simple, strong, easy to install and remove, and secure when on the bike,

Have you considered soft panniers? like these from SW-Motech https://tinyurl.com/y2a7vsle

Available from Amazon. https://tinyurl.com/y65ngxs3

or these... https://tinyurl.com/y2mfqwvh https://tinyurl.com/y4ghtbbp

Not as secure as hard lockables.. but then, there are times when these can be appropriate. And soft panniers are seen as the best alternative to aluminium crates by a lot of ADV bikers, particularly those who don't fall to the ground and begin foaming at the mouth in an ecstasy of paranoia, whenever unsecured luggage is mentioned. Certainly very popular in America.

Not really a fan of soft luggage. I like to know thats its properly fixed to my bike! Also i have two high exhausts on each side. They get warm but not hot.

If i was to go to all that trouble tryi g to set up a rig id just go for throwover/soft panniers.

I just prefer hard fixed panniers that way i know there saftly on my bije and dont have to worry

The panniers from SW Motech ARE properly fixed to the bike. they are secured onto the rack, the one you would have to buy for the Givi cases. And also the rack ensures there is a gap.

The only real problem i can see with the E22s is that they are the absolute bottom of the range.

For only a little more i would go for these: https://tinyurl.com/yyjhd85z

Kappa K33 Panniers

Features Monokey-Side fitting system

Includes x2 high security keys

Easy to install & remove

Aerodynamic characteristic

Waterproof construction

Sold as a pair

Specification

Max Load - 10KG (per case)

Max Capacity - 35 Litres (per case)

Net Weight - 7.4KG (per case)

Kappa is a brand from Givi, made in the same factory. These appear to be much higher quality to the E22s and fit in exactly the same way

The same panniers but carrying the Givi brand will set you back £188 from Amazon. https://tinyurl.com/y2du4wjd or £240 from sportsbikeshop.

That first link, would that fir on the sw-motech evo carrier? From what i can see in the photo it has a curved back so go round exhausts. But on the xt660x the evo carrier sits on the outside of the exhausts so no need for the curves.

Thats was exactly my thoughts on the E22’s. I have two Givi paniers at hone flat back monokey ones buttt... they are rather large and wont look right on my bike not sure what litre they are

Looks don't matter, get where you're going and take them off until you start for home again. On the road, nobody cares what your luggage looks like.

If i come touring this year to Eifel/Luxumburg were going from point to point staying in bnb’s so would be no point in yaking them off other then when staying overnight. Ill have to order the sw-motech evo carrier and chuck them on see what they look like. They are big though hahaha
