Cbt in northern ireland

Recommended Posts

The Northern Ireland DL196 (CBT certificate) is valid throughout the UK including the Republic of Ireland.

However.....(There is always a kicker isn't there? ) if you want to take your full motorcycle test in England, then the Northern Ireland CBT is not recognised, you would have to obtain an English issued CBT certificate and unfortantely there is no reciprocal agreement for certs like there is with many countries for licences.

So in short, you can ride as a learner, but if you are resident and want to get your full licence, you would have to do an English CBT even though the CBT courses in both countries are identical.

If you want clarification, you can always contact the DVLA of Northern Ireland at https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/contacts/contacts-az/driver-vehicle-agency-driver-licensing
