Recently did an oil and filter change on my sv, just wondering the correct way about checking the levels, do you check oil when cold or do you have to warm it up for a while then check? Noob question but not 100percent! Cheers guys

The owners manual says.

1. Place the motorcycle on level ground on the side stand.

2. Start the engine and allow it to idle for a few minutes.

3. Stop the engine and wait for 3 minutes.

4. Hold the motorcycle vertically and check the level through the oil inspection window on the right hand side of the engine. the oil level should be between the L low and F full lines.

Best procedure is as stated in owners manual

There are a variant of ways so as above if you can find the above is best

( these are for various manufacturers some may not be relevant

Place bike on centre stand and leave for 5 mins ( cold engine) check level

Place on centre stand , run engine for five ( or variant ) minutes .stop engine) Leave for 5 minutes . Check level.

Run engine , Stop engine , allow 5 mins and level bike and check level ( kawasaki gtr1400 Method with a sight glass on the right hand side )

Check from cold on the level
