Locking Nuts

So ... some more sensible advice required.

On the rear suspension linkage and engine mounting bolts of the Trophy, Triumph have deemed it necessary to use a fine thread flanged nut with an in built mechanical locking element.

These have been mullered by a previous owner so I’d like to replace them, but not at £6 a time !!

Would it be ok to use ones without the locking element & use loctite instead or even a nyloc nut?

They also use these for securing the brake discs & although I wouldn’t use Nyloc coz of the temperatures, would loctite or a serrated flange nut do?

Me being a boring sort of bloke who doesn't like doing or seeing bodges on a motorcycle, I would replace them with the right oem equipment if possible. £6 a pop is not a lot of money when you're potentially trusting that machine with your life. :thumb:

It's a bit iffy whether they work or not fastbob. Nyloc, threadlock or those all steel locking nuts ftw.

I'm not certain but sometimes at least I think suspender bolts are made of higher grade than yer standard 8.8 bolt, likely 10.9 which is why the ft/lb setting is higher than others of similar size. Also japanese bolts are stamped with a 10 if they're grade 10 (I think).

I've struggled to find anything higher rated than an 8.8 nyloc, whereas the all steel lockers can be had in 10.9

Nice find on the cheaper ones, they are tricky swines to get hold of. Luckily the local bike shop had a hand full of used ones last time I needed any.
