So I'm trying to put this thing back together after removing the top lower bush. Won't go back in, now I remember thinking bushes need pressing back in. Am I right in thinking it needs a special tool of which I'll never use again?

For clarity I can't get the oil seal back on because this bush isn't sitting flush.

Can you utilise the old fork seal to help tap it into place ?

Or the old bush with the fork washer inbetween the bushes

Tape around the stanchion so you minimise risk of hitting it

Using a flat punch or similar tap around to drive it inwards .

A fork seal tool comes in handy, you have to slip the washer in then tw-t it with the side hammer seal insert tool or plastic pipe of some kind, it has to be knocked flush for the seal to fit, don’t try knocking the fork seal in before you seat the bush as the seal just won’t go down properly.

Have a look through the kitchen cupboards and see if you have any Swartz herbs and spices . I seem to recall that the plastic containers make an excellent fork bush driver provided the diameter is right . Next time you do this job measure carefully to make sure the bush is actually the right one . If the other one is seated though there's probably no need . I just wouldn't want you bashing away when it's already fully seated .
