Windows program in android

#1 Post by Mr Fro » Sat Apr 01, 2017 9:32 am

I've had a great idea!

Instead of getting loads of gauges to clutter up my build, I thought it would be good to run the ECU program on a phone so I can monitor stuff on the go.

I tried opening the program on my current HTC and it wouldn't play ball.

Is there anything I can do to get it to work? I don't mind wiping an old phone and installing an alternative operating system.

The software are the last two on this list.

Cheers,
Fro

There maybe some kind of windows emulator out there. I know android is Linux based so I would have thought someone will have written a hack.

The answer is pretty much no. If the software was written for one OS, it's not going to work on another without emulation. Even if you can get an emulator to work, drivers for using various connection devices on the phone will also need updates or emulated.

Of course, if you are a software developer you might manage it. If various bits of code are not locked and hidden…

Also if it is licensed software, it is borderline or fully software piracy depending on how you get it working.

depends on its system requirements, but you can get cheap windows tablets for less than 100quid.. I have one somewhere, i could give it a try if you like?

EDIT: you've given me an idea - i could install my Power Commander software and BMW diagnostics stuff on my tablet. I already bought a cheap windows netbook for using in the garage, but with it all working on a tablet i could take it out on the road with me!.... off to locate my windows table!

Exactly what I mean Joeman. Tape it to the tank and adjust things in the fly.

If you can see if those things will open I'll grab a cheaper tablet.

You beauty!

I'm using TCIP4_v88 for the ECU and WB_2set for the lambda.

There should be something on the left part of the screen though... I'll grab some pics in a mo.

Bit slow as not much RAM, and I've not really used it much as don't actually have a use for tablet devices, but it's now running power commander software, BMW service manual and gs911 service software without any problems. I've yet to connect anything to the USB but I'm not expecting any issues.. might hook up to the bike tomorrow to prove the USB works ok.
