Photobucket!

#1 Post by Stu » Fri Jul 14, 2017 11:03 am

It appears that photobucket are now limiting people accounts!

They are sending this email out below and disabling all images that link to forums etc!

So if you have images on forums hosted on photobucket you will soon see they are not working!

I have just downloaded all mine and will be sacking it off

They won't be sending me an email as I no longer have an account.

You'll also notice the "direct" link to the jpg file option has also gone, now there is only HTML or Flash embed options.

I downloaded all my photos past night, deleted them all off photobucket, and deleted my account.

When you delete your account they ask for feedback why, so I selected unhappy with the service provided from the list, and told them it was extremely slow since they started charging, and since they no longer gave a direct link to the images for them to be shared elsewhere, after 10 years of putting up with all their advertising because the image hosting was free, the site was no longer of any use to me.

I hardy used it, then when using it recently noticed how it was totally over run with pop-ups. Practically unusable, when I got the email off them ,and looked into it to see what was happening, I just deleted all my pics and closed it down. As previously said, you get a question about why you are leaving, I just said 'without free hosting the site is completely pointless as well as unusable due to popups.

Looks good. I've just signed up for an account.

I won't be uploading anything other than images for forums, as their terms of service and privacy policy are 1 paragraph each, and if you look up the registration it's whoisguard protected so you have no idea who actually runs the site. Any images you put up there, you will completely loose any control over, so don't use it to share pictures of your wife and kids on the beach with grandma, unless you want to find them copied and spread all over the internet, but for pictures of motorbikes to put on this forum it should be fine. As soon as you stick a link to it on a forum, or put it on photobucket for others to view and download, you lost any control of it anyway.

I moved from there to Dropbox years ago.

Then Dropbox decided they didn't want me anymore either.

I'd love something like Dropbox again. Only not Dropbox because Dropbox isn't Dropbox any longer. The bast*rds.

For those not aware... You can host 1TB of photos for free on Flickr, also with auto uploaders for android and iOS (auto upload for pc is for PRO accounts only I think)

The trouble with Flickr is it puts bits of code before and after the image link which you have to remove manually, if you know a way to avoid the code pray tell.

Doesn't Flickr have a cap on how many images you can have on a free account? That was why I stopped using it, I filled it up then thought "well what's the point any more".

The "sharing code" you get to imbed the photo into a forum from flickr is this (I've put some extra spaces in the tags to get it to show:
[ url=https://flic.kr/p/WGNQhH][ img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4302/359 ... 72b71f.jpg[/img][/url][ url=https://flic.kr/p/WGNQhH]Ruffed Lemur[/url] by [ url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/arwen_7/]Anne-Marie Curran[/url], on Flickr
This gives you :

ImageRuffed Lemur by Anne-Marie Curran, on Flickr

To remove the text at the end, simply remove the last url and img tags, so you are left with:
[ url=https://flic.kr/p/WGNQhH][ img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4302/359 ... 72b71f.jpg[/img][/url]

which gives you this
