1987 Yamaha RXS100

Cost me £600 which included a second bike for spares..

I am currently on my second RXS100, the first I owned 17 years ago when I was 17. I think they are great little bikes for what they are.

Good points.

Faster than more modern 4 stroke 125's

Easy and cheap to maintain (No engine oil to change, just keep topping the tank up)

Light and easy to throw around

Quite cheap to buy, and hold their value well.

Will do upto 100mpg when ridden sensibly.

Bad points

6V electrics poor (12v conversion easy to do and improves matters greatly)

Drum front brake ok but not exceptional.

Many chrome bits which rust, and look awful. Not a simple job to refurbish.

You cannot take your test on it due to it not being a 125

Looks are a bit conservative.

Overall a nice little bike and highly recommended as a cheap runabout or learner. Reliability is excellent and being naturally 12bhp is nicer to ride than a strangled 125, yet is still about as fast as you are legally allowed to go on L plates.
