What bike was it? Yamaha RD125LC Mk1

Year 1985/B

Price paid £200

I bought this RD125LC in need of restoration. It was all there but needed some serious work.

After 2 months I had a pretty nice example.

Good Points.

Fast (for a 125) 90mph plus

Handled pretty well once on decent tyres

Turned heads (Loudish micron Pipe)

Very reliable

Pretty decent fuel consumption - 70mpg

Bad points.

Didn't handle as well as my previous TZR125

Some parts tricky to find and expensive.

Not strictly learner legal due to being de-restricted.

Not a lot of go under 6000rpm

I really enjoyed my time restoring and riding my 125LC, enough performance to burn off moast modern 125's, whist being reliable and comfortable to ride..

I also managed to make a small profit when I sold it.

Those planning on using one for longer trips may wish to fit a standard exhaust as it makes the engine a bit less peaky and easier to cruise on.

Before and after, although in the second pic it wasn't quite finished.
