satansmeerkat
I've hit another wall with my xv 535 project.I can't get the carbs back into place. They won't fit over the rubber seals for the engine and air box. Is there a trick to it, or is it a case of loosening the rubber and brute force and ignorance.I've got the carbs all together, should I take some bits off before I put them into place?Any advice or educated guesses welcome Cheers guys
Guest
Try WD40 on the rubber or some such stuff. Even water and washing up liquid should help. Or try warming the rubber first with a hair dryer. But just get them warm not hot.
satansmeerkat
Thanks Gautrek, Vaseline worked in the end (I find it always helps when sliding things into rubber ifyouknowwhatimean)However the top rubber seals from the air filter don't quite reach down far enough to fit over the carb intake pipes. Do I just stretch them down, or again, is there some trick?
Grumpy Old Git
They are usually too long - are you sure they are mounted in the air filter unit correctly?
satansmeerkat
It's been a while, I've been very very busy lately and started work again a week ago. Finally got them in, electrics and fuel sorted and now she turns over. Clutch is kinda funny though, I've taken a look and posted it under a new topic
Stu
Thanks Gautrek, Vaseline worked in the end (I find it always helps when sliding things into rubber ifyouknowwhatimean) I have just seen this vaseline is petroleum based and will eat away at rubber over time!! if your going to use anything a silicone based lube is best or WD40
