Speed Four Project

Recommended Posts

Hi folks - I'm yet to pass the DAS but someone I know was selling their 06 Speed Four in black so I snapped it up. It needs some work but nothing major.

First issue was that the petrol cap lock barrel had stuck shut/jammed so I spent a while yesterday removing that. A broken key and a big screwdriver later I managed to remove the whole cap assembly so I'll get a new cap ordered up.

Question: will any 6 bolt fuel cap fit??

Here are a few pictures..

It's covered in rusty bolts etc but I'll spend some time finding stainless replacements.

It may need a new chain and sprockets, but definitely needs a good service as it was sat outside for around a year. It runs great though!

Hi Michael, I forgot you were on this forum :)

best of luck getting the S4 back into shape, it deserves it! Look forward to seeing the progress :) Shame about the fuel cap, I really liked that union jack!(if you're interested it was a metal sticker from ebay).

Ed has said to tell you that his phone died and he lost all his numbers, the phone he's using doesn't have whatsapp so call or text only. I know he's still got a few bits to give you.

Hiya! Just spotted your reply, sorry!

New petrol cap acquired and fitted now. To be honest I've never been a fan of union jack stuff so wasn't too upset. Just annoying to have a separate petrol cap key. And one of the ignition keys snapped trying to open the gubbed one, so I need to get another cut.

Looking forward to getting it on the road though!

Dropped the 125 off for an MOT half an hour ago so hopefully it'll pass and we can get it sold!

The down pipes are stainless so should come up nicely with a bit (lot) of elbow grease. Mine looked like that when I got it and now they are shiny.

I ditched the clip-ons and put flat renthals on mine but that's a personal preference thing.

Watch out for leaky fuel attachments on the tank if you need to remove it. Originals are plastic and they go brittle over time

Aha......so it was Ed's old Speed 4....... 8-)

A set of crash bungs wouldn't go amiss if it doesn't have them already......I fitted R&G ones to my S4 when I had it.....bit of a faff having to drill holes in the radiator cowling plastics, but it turned out ok...... 8-)

I put smoked lenses on the indicators, smoked LED rear light, laminar lip screen on the pixie hat and a Scottoiler on mine.

Sorry, I do have some pics around of Tango (my Speed 4 was bright orange... ) but they're not on my tablet, so I'll need to fire my laptop up......which will take about a week!

Top tip mate.....spray some ACF50 onto a rag and wipe it over the frame and engine cases.....they'll come up nice....

This is my version

Has smoked lenses, laminar lip, renthal bar conversion, bar-end mirrors and a carbon exhaust

Nice bit of bogey green there! Not a fan but I love the orange, yellow and black ones.
