KMX200A Fork Conversion? (New Project)

Recommended Posts

Right guys so ive picked up a KMX200 as a project bike i believe its a 88 from what ive gathered, now im attempting to do a fork conversion with a 1989 kdx 200e1. But seen as the yokes from the KMX use a Standard thrust ball bearing i cant get the kdx yokes to fit, as they use a upper and lower roller taper. The bottom bearing fits nice but the top doesnt at all, does anyone know what the top bearing size is for the Kmx200? Also the other problem ive got is the bottom yoke doesnt hit the stops on the frame, i think a spacer inbetween the bottom taper bearing may just give me the lower clearance i need. Are there any guys on here that have succesfully installed kdx forks and yokes on a kmx?

Hi matty, the KMX, KDX 200s and the KMX 125 all have the same size forks , yokes and bottom yoke, therefore all the bearings are the same, take a look on line at

http://www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-kdx200-e1-1989-usa-canada_model11778/partslist/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Enter you bikes in and you will see they are all the same :thumb:

Just a thought Matty, usually when you drop out the bottom yoke the lower inner race stays on the stem along with the bottom dust seal, that could be the reason the bottom yoke isn't hitting the stops, it has to be taken off which is a pig in itself, looks like your bearing is sitting on top of that lower race therefore not hitting the stops, have a look at that, whether it's taper or roller bearings doesn't matter their the same overall size :thumb:

So i gave up with the kdx yokes, im a quitter i know! :P, trying to source some genuine KMX200 Yokes online, but cant find none at all! Plenty of Forks for sale but no yokes, wondering if the Kmx 125 yokes will fit?. Im pretty certain the 125 had 35mm forks where as the 200 had 38mm, im not to fussed about dropping the fork size down. I just need to know if the yokes will fit, after all didnt the 125 and 200 use identical frames?

Hi Matty, yes the yolks and frames are the same, the 125 stanchions are 35mm, and the 200 stanchions are 38mm ,KDX 200 stanchions 43mm. Steering bearings are the same for KMX125/200 @ top 25x46x12 and bottom 28x51x11, is it a brake caliper upgrade that you are gong for , and are you swapping the whole front end. This site is more specialised Matty have a look :thumb:
