GSXR 1000 K5 - From 'Kermit' to 'Sapphire'

Recommended Posts

New member, figured i'd post up my progression with my GSXR. It's not really a restoration or project build, in reality it's just a change of fairings and some bolt on mods lol, but here it is anyway...

I bought it back in September (2016) and it instantly gained the name Kermit and here's why...

So, why did I buy a GSXR in a paint scheme I didn't like... it was a bargain! It left me with money left over from my original budget to buy some second hand OEM fairings and some other goodies.

So I started to pull apart this Kawasaki-wanna-be Suzuki and built her back up as a proper Suzuki :)

What did she come with...

Micron Serpent slip-on

K&N air filter

ECU Flash & custom fuel map (170bhp at the wheel with print out)

Good service history

What did I buy...

First on the list was OEM fairings

Tank with matching OEM scheme

Then some OZ Racing HL02 wheels cropped up and I couldn't say no for the price he was asking.

Brembo RCS 19x18, the standard Nissin m/c on the GSXR's isn't the best in all honesty. A Brembo m/c makes a world of a difference.

The Micron Serpent exhaust the bike came with, the paint kept rubbing off where my heel would touch the exhaust when riding on the balls of my feet. The exhaust became tacky looking, so that's been replaced with a cheap generic "GP Stubby", until a well priced 300mm Japanese Yoshi TRS crops up.

Bar end mirror, because normal mirrors get in the way.

I've also bought other bits and bobs to improve the bike's aesthetics which provide no real benefit; anodized chain adjuster blocks, smaller plate, carbon fiber mudguard etc etc.

These are the most recent photos I have:

There's still a few more bits i'd like to get, but she's almost there and her name's no longer Kermit, it's Saphire :D

She's a commuter & leisure bike and she does both very well. Hands down the best bike i've owned - she lifts well, she turns well and looks great (in my opinion).

OK from someone who likes green bikes.... WTF was someone thinking to do that to it!!!!

Looks much better now, top stuff :thumb:

.......you still got the green wheels?

Thanks mate

I sold the green wheels unfortunately. I do have a spare white rear wheel, which I may be willing to sell if you're after one. The rear wheels are interchangeable from 2001-2008 on the GSXR 1000's.
