Wales - Report a driver scheme - Dashcam

A pilot scheme which has seen action taken against dangerous drivers is being expanded across Wales. Dashcam footage is accepted in the scheme.

Visordown & others have commented on this.

I'm not entirely sure what the threshold would be for the authorities to take action but I would be unimpressed if I have overtaken Mrs Miggins who's doing 45 in a 60 & she sends her dashcam footage off & I get a notice.

Personally I have a dashcam purely for self protection should the worst happen, but I could spam the authorities inbox if I wanted with loads of shite driving seen on a daily basis.

Then do just that.

Inboxes will get overwhelmed and the powers that be who reckon this is a good idea will get sick of signing overtime sheets for folk processing the influx of videos, having to pay extra for IT kit to securely store, backup and catalogue these clips and various other things.

Bad driving is everywhere.

If you don't drive/ride like a knob then you'll be fine so nothing to worry about.

If you do ride/drive like a knob, then you may get what you deserve.

They have no idea how many videos they are going to get sent from irate drivers... There is no way they have the IT infrastructure in place to handle the volumes of reports, especially considering many members of the public won't have a clue how to edit the videos, so they will get sent huge files with maybe just a few seconds if "interesting" footage, much of which won't be useable or won't actually show any laws being broken.

But let them carry on and learn the hard way that you can't cut the policing budget and get the public to do the job for free...

It would be really easy to setup a webcam that watches a road and every time it sees a car going > 1mph over the speed limit it posts a 10mb video to the police demanding that they do something about it.

Leave it running a few months, then submit a fredom of information request requesting how many of the reported incidents were investigated and how many lead to action being taken... The results would make the front page of all the tabloids!
