suzuki125 oil pressure relief valve

First Hi to the forum. Just done a stupid thing, changed the oil and filter on my Suzuki GN125. Overfilled the oil but being the lazy genius I am, thought that the excess would be taken up by the new filter. Didn't happen so took out the drain plug and got a surprise present - what I can only surmise is a pressure relief valve - Spring around a circular, piston shaped, metal plug. Now the question can I just shove the "valve" back in and (metal piston part first) and then fill with the correct amount of oil and be happy ever after? or have I seriously done damage that needs fixing?

Thanks to all. Just to be clear I undid the wrong bolt (see answers to query). Everything OK now luckily I didn't get a handfull of ball bearings so an easy fix!! and I didn't mess with the gears so went back easy.

Hello,

Do you have a picture?

Also are there two bolts next to each other, one being drain plug ...is there a chance you have undone the wrong one?

Someone will be along soon to explain what it is as I cant remember what its called but have heard of this before being a common mistake

Also should run bike up to temp to drain and after filling run it for 10 seconds then stop it ....so the filter gets occupied then refill what is lost on the oil glass level

All refills need to be done on level ground with bike sat upright

Did this not pop out when you first did the oil change?

No because first time it would have been the drain plug :D

I did think that, I was trying to work out why a different port was opened this time .

Sounds like you've undone the gear shift detent retaining bolt. What drops out looks a bit like a top hat with a curved top bit plus a spring. You need to make sure it goes back the right way or finding neutral can be a pain.

Same as the Van Van -

Thanks everybody!!! It was my mistake - undid the wrong nut! Now put it all back together and everything OK. I blame Susuki for putting 2 nuts the same size together and not realising a 3rd nut could come along!!
