just got a new stator plate as a replacement for missing one for a 125 pit bike engine I've bought, all's well except it has a green wire which isn't connected to anything, it has its own grommet around it, could someone explain to me what this wire is for and if its to be connected to anything on bike or stator plate.

Not connected to anything? You mean it is hanging off?

Check with an Ohmmeter for continuity to Earth - Green is normally the Earth wire on a Stator.

It’s mainly to due to reducing the complexity of their after sales inventory - having one part that can be fitted to multiple models and giving away some redundant features can be cheaper than handling and stocking all the derivatives ( I used to do this for a living)

It’s alright for a fitter at a dealer who sees it all the time, but can be a real git for the amateur.
