Honda SS125

Made a clutch cover gasket, New one is only available in a bottom end kit at around £30. :(

This one cost me £2 and an hour of time.

Went up into the loft and found the workshop manuals, found the clutch plates are ok on thickness but the springs are way below the minimum height and need replacing.

This is going to take a bit of sorting as they are discontinued, will need to measure them up and do some searching for similar from Honda's of that age

You are making good progress there. Will be starting a refub thread on my Z500 soon.

Though i was the only one to photograph a try of bolts!

More parts arrived yesterday from David Silver, £20 doesn't go too far.

Centre stand spring and bump stop rubber ,torque arm spring,brake arm spring and pivot pin,yoke nut and a couple of stickers.

Made some progress this week,swingarm,centre stand,yokes,chain guard and mudguard bolted on.

Hoped to get some done today but had to fix my car which took longer than planned, but got a ride on the R1 to Dav to collect some bits from GSF and Halfords.

Trusty Workmate makes an ideal stand to build the frame on until I get some wheels on it.


When I came out of Halfords there was a bloke and his lad admiring the Yamaha,got chatting he said he used to have an R6 and now a Firestorm; anyone on here?

Got another hour in the garage this morning,got the forks and wiring loom in.

Need to order some other fork gators,the ones I bought are a bit short.

Dropped the tank and seat on to get a sense of what it will look like.

Bit more done today, airfilter housing in then back out when I realised the rectifier goes in first.

Air filter back in,ignition switch & rear brakelight switch fitted.

Stripped the indicator stalks from the indicators for clean up and repaint.


Damn, I have ordered anything for a few days;stand by Ebay and David Silver.

Hi Bianco , i presume you have seen the film Independence Day ? I guess this is an SS 50 but there is a great similarity.

 

I think there is one similar in Sons of Anarchy, its a red bike and appears leaning against a wall in their compound, it moves location depending on the series.

At the NMM show yesterday Allen Millyard had taken an SS50 and made it into a 100cc v-twin

Where's that YouTube tutorial?

If I'm teaching you to suck eggs, sorry......if not, do your research, take lots of photos of the spoke pattern before you dismantle the wheel and be prepared to play about with the offset for the rear sprocket. And get/make an axle support for truing it up.

It's only following a procedure, just like building an engine or a gearbox :thumb:

Might take a couple of go's to get my head around it though.

Is there a finer way to end a long week than an evening in the garage with all the toys and a bottle of Stella?

Answers on a postcard as they used to say.

Spokes arrived today aswell.

Clutch back on, RH cover with home made gasket fitted and new screws.Just need to trim the excess gasket round the edges

Topped it up with oil and cranked it over, oil soon started running out of the side cover which shows the oil pump is working well.

No leaks from the gasket either

Two bottles of Stella went down a treat. :cheers:

Had to put the wheel rebuild on hold, not been able to source any correct size nipples, fnarr .Went back to the place I got the rims from to find they will be at least 2 months.Ah well, no rush

So put the wheels back in and stuck the engine in place just to free up some space in the garage.

Fitted the footpeg hanger,airfilter,front mudguard,various new bolts and the side cover badges this morning.

Jobs this coming week are cleaning up all the foot rests and strip,clean and ultrasonic the carb.

Have ordered some new rear shocks,

I think I'll end up getting the tank,mudguard and chain guard repainted as they are looking a bit tired compared to all the other freshly painted parts.

Still undecided what to do with the exhausts.I can fit some some new replica silencers easy enough but the downpipes are pretty rusty and near on impossible to get at a reasonable cost.Would wrapping them spoil it?
